Do we not even bother with threads about attendances anymore? Are we past all that commenting on what sort of crowd a team at the top of the top league in their sport get for the biggest match of the season in this 'rugby-mad town'?

17500 there last night - normally there would be 5-6000 HKR fans, there must have been only 2k from them last night.- so would have been a 20k+ crowd had they been performing ok

How many fans did we have attending home games last year (minus the 2000+ away fans we had visiting?)

Is this aimed at me? Im not insecure at all, I was asking if we were having a thread. But if you're asking the question, we were in the 2nd division. How many fans do you think we'd get if we were in the top 3 of the Premier League all season? And I'm not even talking for games versus a team from the same city.

The fact is RH and the HDM build this up to be a massive event the equivalent of Rangers v Celtic, the Milan Derby and others (seriously, that was once said on RH not so long ago). The fact is not once has this massive derby sold out, there are 23,500 tickets available, the reduction due to unreserved seating, and not once has it reached that number. Haven't noticed other derby games having stadiums a quarter empty because one team isn't doing well. In fact they should have been there in numbers to try and avoid the embarrassment of such a massive club missing out on the top eight.

 

Its a a big event to the people who enjoy it. Your continued comparison to Football is short-sighted and irrelevant. The same that the top 2 chinese badminton players in the world playing would be a big event, in front of 500 people in a sports hall in Beijing.

I will focus on what I want, thanks. In this instance I was focusingbon the fact this game is hyped up far too much.
It isn't even the biggest derby in rugby, either league or union as far as crowds are concerned.

Rugby League is simply awful. I have tried watching a couple of times on SKY and it's not even the best code. Union as a spectacle is far more watchable.

Don't agree there. There are some excellent games, though not every game is and none are as good as the over excitable commentators on SKY make out when claiming every season just gets better and better. I have an admiration for the toughness of those playing. It is just the overhyping of it in Hull that irritates me.
Prefer Union.To me the old saying still holds, a good game of union is better than a good game of League but a bad game of Union is worse than a bad game of League.

Although I can't force myself to watch a full game of either tbh, just not my thing.

I guess I'm lucky not being in or around Hull as, well, you would barely know it even exists as a sport down here.

 

League is stop start stop start with that 6 tackle fiasco. I watch and enjoy a fairly wide variety of sports - but Rugby league? It just totally bores me. I'd say a bad game of union is better than a good game of league.

 

I like going to Devon, Dorset and Hampshire. Staying in smaller, out of the way places. A lot of interest in Union especially in Devon but surprisingly little in football. Don't see many people walking around in replica kits, though I did see a City one. Most pubs away from the seaside resorts like Torbay advertise rugby union games more than football ones.
Makes a refreshing change from being surrounded by people talking about PL clubs they have no connection with.

Around here (Peterborough/Cambridge) seems to be a small smattering of die hard Posh and Cambridge fans, but a lot more Arsenal fans. Most talk is generally about Saints or Leicester Tigers, not Leicester City.

In defense of SOME Arsenal fans, this is a region that was populated by a fair bit of London overspill who wanted more house for their money. Also see a fair few Hammers fans. Hence why I refer to my missus as a Fen Cockney, despite her family being from the fens and not London. I just do it to annoy her.

 

I used to work for a company that sponsored Bath - I have been to the Rec quite a few times. Nice venue and place.

 

The stats clearly show that the ball is in play for almost twice as long in a game of league than union, so by definition union is significantly more stop start.

I'm not saying one is better than the other, they both have their merits and its entirely subjective which one you find more entertaining.
