Did anybody just hear that woman on BBC news say that the lorry driver only fired his gun in self defence
I'm surprised that a truck would be on the roads for Bastille Day, probably the biggest public holiday in France.
Joel, who was in Nice at the time, seen the lorry go into the crowd and then heard gunshots. About half an hour later when he was in his hotel, he started to realise that it might have been something serious happening. Where do they find these people
I'm quite surprised you think this is a laughing matter tbh. There had just been a massive firework display and he probably didn't realise, at first, that they were actual gunshots until he found what had happened. The bloke was probably in shock mate.
I'd imagine that's because it's abroad Bri, if it was in Darlington you might feel different. I have friends in Nice and can't even get through to them this morning. They have teenage children who might well have gone to the celebrations, they were born in France and totally integrated. It's left me shaking, this morning, and very emotional. The Promenade is as familiar to me as Bridge Street and every image makes me shudder. TBF people see such much 'graphic violence' on screen, with things like Game of Thrones' that a lorry driving along seems 'ordinary'.
It's a long tradition in the species. Despite all evidence to the contrary, a large number of fanatics continue to believe that the best way to convert what they consider to be souls in error, is to kill them. This has been going on for thousands of years. In the UK the most recent, large scale, example has been Ireland. I am reminded of the tale of from the conquest of America. The Spanish, having conquered a tribe handed them over to their Priests to convert them to Christianity. The Priests told these 'Indians' that they must either convert to Christianity or be burned alive in the waiting fires. What will happen to us if we convert, asked the Chief. When you die you will go to heaven, said the priest. And in your Heaven are there only Christians, like yourselves, asked the Chief. Yes, replied the Priest. The Chief and the rest of the tribe then walked into the fires.
I try to find humour in most things. Obviously this affects you because of where it is and I don't suspect you will see any light side to it while worrying about friends over there. Like has already been said, we are becoming desensitised to this kind of attack so the horror doesn't hit home, the way it used too. Somebody on the BBC has just said when they saw the lorry crash into the crowd and come to a stop, he saw the driver going into his pocket and assumed he was getting his phone out to ring his insurance company, until he realised he was pulling a gun out. That made me laugh. Doesn't mean I'm not sickened by these attacks though, just desensitised and I sincerely hope that your friends are alright out there.
I felt the same until this one - my bosses sister in law and her family (good friends of mine) are over there and were in the street - saw it all happen and when it's "closer to home" so to speak it re-sensitises you! They are lucky ones mind as they witnessed it rather than being in themiddle of it.
Of course it's a Muslim attack. I knew it would be immediately as I heard it reported on the bbc this morning. When they don't mention the attacker it means it's a Muslim. Had it been someone from the right, for example, Mair (Jo Cox), we would have been told but because it's them lot again, the bbc will not mention it. They may admit it was a 'man' or even a man of Asian appearance but as usual, they will control the reporting to their agenda. They were 3 days late in admitting the Cologne gropes and only reported them because by then everyone else was reporting this and they couldn't hide it any more. There is a website called biased bbc Google it and you can read of the huge amount of news manipulation going on. Terrible though these attacks are, after a few balloons and teddy bears are laid out and the moralising windbags have duly put the French flag on their Facebook avatars and tweeted "je suis ....(insert latest atrocity)", this will be forgotten until the next tragedy. Of course I feel sad about these poor innocent victims but nothing will happen about this, same as all the other atrocities, until the politicians act on it but because of the ever increasing Muslim vote, they will do no more than wring their hands and say "lessons will be learned".
I bet mate. You alright? Are they Alright? I may be a little dead inside atm but it's still terrible innocent people have been slaughtered. Hope everybody you know checks in safe and well mate.
