Don't really like backing favs in the majors so went with the below. Not picking a yank could be a bad idea though! Rose 35/1 Kaymar 40/1 Casey 80/1
Paddy Power Top 8. Going for a couple of nearly men Westwood 50/1 Montgomerie 250/1 And a couple of Johnson's 9/1 and 70/1
Completed my grouping at big odds: Fowler (38s) Mickleson (46s) Casey (130s) Colsaerts (190s) Jimenez (620s ) Thought Micklesons ability off the fairway might suit him well at this course. He was one shot back in 3rd last time here and if he can hit the fairways he should have a lot of fun at this course, but he is a bit hit and miss these days. Fowler and Colsaerts as mentioned yesterday- Fowler very talented but just needs a bit more resolve and composure, whilst Colsaerts might go well on a links course at a price having shown glimpse of form at the Scottish Open. Jimenez is just an absolute legend of the links and although he'll have had too much red wine by the time the Third Round comes, he is one of those links players that can shoot under par and be in the mix for a while. Possible back to lay opportunity.
Love to see Phil up there too, always exciting to watch. Has looked a bit gloomy in himself since just avoiding a jail sentence though, like a cloud over him. All clouds blow over though and hopefully he's feeling good within himself this week.
I'd love to be playing Troon today, playing as easy as you will ever see. Target practice, especially this front 9. Conditions are to toughen up if the forecast is to be trusted so remember not to get carried away just yet! Danny Lee and Jon Rahm have both put me out of my misery early so depending on the two Englishmen now.
Big Phil ripping it up ! Americans covering the top 7 spots atm,a lot of players not making the most of what are easier playing conditions than normal !
Great quote from Shane Lowry as Mickelson lips the hole to miss out on his record breaking 62 in a Major. "That's big for me there. I'd never be able to come back from 16 behind" LOL
Great round from Big Phil to get his week off and running! Long way to go yet of course and they reckon today was going to be the best conditions of the week?
With conditions likely to get quite hairy you would really want the lead wouldnt you. A long way to go but 9/2 is very tempting.
Only 11 clear of Dustin Johnson though at the moment. You'd have to fear for Phil with Johnson that close.
Just taken some 60's on Jason Day who's started very well and moved to -1. He will need to get to -4 or so and hope the wind wreaks havoc this afternoon. #clutchingatstraws
What's the current weather like? How bad this afternoon? Need to decide on whether to cash out on Phil or trust him to stay cool.
Cashed out on Big Phil. Had a really good bet on him using a winner in the week on the nags and was offered a tidy sum that frankly I'd have been very happy with at the start. He's in a real ding dong with Stenson so now I can finally let my nerves go away and enjoy an epic Sunday. Sure if he wins I'd have won a good chunk more but that's how it goes and as we all know, any time you can take a good profit is a good day.
One tip from you and his average goes to cock! By the way. Why do you favourite every single one of my posts that loses but never the winners. Is it because you are a total wum?
Well done TC. Profit is profit. Mighty tempting to let it run though. It's effectively a match now and Phil's the one with experience winning majors. I expect it to go to the wire with Phil to triumph. Stenson by 5 it is then
Very cowardly I know but I backed Big Phil when I put this put this post up each way 1-2-3-4 so some sort of money back looks guaranteed and I obviously hope he wins. At least I have an interest. My pre tournament punt on Snedeker isnt dead in the water yet either as that was first eight. Had a little bit on Jiminez this morning to finish Top 5 at 60/1 as I reckon anyone at around level par will have a chance of 3rd, 4th or 5th and he is a pretty reliable in all conditions.
