Yes. Alternatively I very much hope it's *not* the latter <ok>

    This.

We have had disappointments in spades. Players who were good passers in their previous teams but just flopped when they came here.

Which is my problem with Pogba as he does not guarantee anything.

No one can guarantee you anything. But Pogba is more likely to contribute and fit in than most. As to the Rat, costing £100m. The RS sold him for £65m and that's because they were keen to sell him. I think Pogba's contribution to Juventus's season was greater than his to Barca's.

    Will he?

Couldn't wait to leave last time and clearly doesn't want to come back this time, why is he more likely to fit in than most?

Like I said earlier, he has to be willing/keen to come back to win things. If not he is not worth it for even half the price! We certainly don't want reluctant player or one who just go through the motions...

And that's the other thing, why aren't you in the slightest but suspicious of someone who hasn't by now responded to the claims we're willing to pay £100 million by stating that he will walk to Manchester if necessary?

All of it points to someone with a stinking attitude to be honest.

If it were me I'd drop the interest now and look for someone cheaper who wants to come here. Haven't we learned a thing for the Di Maria debacle?

I dare you to find anywhere where I was critical of Martials' price tag. I went to pains to stress it wasn't about the price tag. I wanted a proven 25-30 goals a season CF. As such, after the season we've had, I was proved right

For me, if you're spending 100m then the top midfielders you're looking at are Xavi, Iniesta, Zidane, Scholes, Ronaldhino at their absolute pomp where you are as close to guaranteeing success as possible with a player purchase. IF we're going to be lazy about scouting and just buy an immediate fix for £100m then we better find one of them.

The problem is that none of them resemble Pogba as a midfielder. So you look at Viera, Essien, Keane, Schweinsteiger, Gattuso, Seedorf in their absolute pomp. But the trouble is Pogba is nowhere near as good as any of them. AND none of them, if they were around today (at their very best) would be worth £100m, which means Pogba is worth even less and he guarantees much less on the pitch.

Whilst I agree on your point about worth, the point is about getting him. I think we can agree that Pogba on a footballing worth basis, whatever that means, is not "worth" £100m.

But it is about trying to prise him away from a club which does not want to sell. It is about stuffing their hands with gold IF Jose is desperate to get him. It is like Scholes being worth £50m a few years back. Real wants him and we don't want to sell. No point for them to offer £50m to United as we'll just tell them to **** off. Juventus will tell United to **** off if we just offer his relative worth of £50m-£60m.

It is about how much the team will be improved by him. If he is going to transform it then he'll be worth the money.

It's a bit like getting ready to sell your house and checking around the local area to see what prices similar houses are going for. The trouble is, as we all know, that a house is only worth what the buyer is willing to pay and apart from tarting up the inside and keeping the place in good order there is little the seller can do to influence the value of the sale.

Pogba is worth what the buying club is willing to pay - end of story. If that is us then you would like to think that all the scouting (here and probably at Chelsea) has convinced the board that he is worth the money - otherwise we would have looked elsewhere.

Major difference: Juventus does NOT want to sell. They would be happy if he signed an improved longer contract.

Interviewed in Spanish by ESPN in Los Angeles on Wednesday, Pogba was presented with three shirts – a Juventus one, a Real Madrid one and a Manchester United one. Asked what Juventus mean to him, he said: “That’s my team, my family, it’s where I am playing.”

Asked what Real mean to him, Pogba said: “They won the Champions League this year. They are a great club.” When the same question was put to the player regarding United, he replied: “It was my first family.”

Pogba was then asked how he would react if Mourinho called and asked him to play for United. His response should encourage the Portuguese: “I don’t know. Let’s see, let’s see. For the moment, I am here [Juventus] and I am happy here, but I don’t know where I want to go.”

It is not like Scholes at all. Because he is nowhere near as good as Scholes. Nowhere near. His playing style is different as well.. The money in itself is not the issue. I'm not saying I have a problem with how much he's worth. My point is that IF you're admitting that we are trying to prise away a ready made product and we're willing to spend £100m to do it - then buy a Scholes, or even an Essien or Viera but DON'T buy a lesser player like Pogba because it's not only lazy, there's also a greater degree of buying someone who will not live up to expectations compared to the names I've mentioned.

I would have left Lampard out tbf. He's not in the 'elite' category with Iniesta and Gerrard. Scholes is borderline <ok>

Surely you are not trying to suggest that Juve don't want to make £100m from one player..................why only offer him a new contract at half the wages that we are offering - doesn't make sense. This is simply media fodder for Juve fans to make it look like they 'did everything they could to keep the player'
