I MUST SAY A MASSIVE THANKS TO PETER REID ! HE WAS THE MAN WHO BROUGHT NIALL QUINN TO THE CLUB AND FROM THAT DAY ON NIALL FELL IN LOVE WITH THIS GREAT CLUB OF OURS. QUINNY IS A LEGEND. 5 OR 6 YEARS AGO WE WERE SCRAPPING AROUND FOR VERY AVERAGE PLAYERS. JEFF WHITLEY COMES TO MIND , WELL DONE NIALL & BRUCEY !!! BET THE SCUM AND THEIR NEW MANAGER ALAN PARTRIDGE ARE FU#CKING DEVASTATED ! FTM View attachment 428
Signed from Ipswich I think in 1974 as a forward I think he got one goal in two years and that hit his backside and bounced in!!
And to think people questioned Reid signing him as the big man was seen as a bit of a crock, having been lucky enough to watch him and Super Kev in their prime Quinny has to be one of most underated target men of his time. A true Legend!
To be fair in some ways Reid started all of this. He bought not just Quinn but other players who fit the Sunderland ethic and mentality, we lost our way for a while but quinny has bought that ethic back to the club. I would like to see Reid back here one day in some capacity. Quinn is for me the best signing safc ever made.
Huhges was a poor buy injured in his first game I think he played about 20 mins in total for the club. however Holden IMO was a decent footballer
With out Ried and Murruy we would not be here now we would be playing in a run down stadium in Leagur 2. We should always remember what they did for the club, especially Murruy, He would only sell the club to someone who loved it as much as he did.
My dad's mentioned him once or twice but Belfitt was before my time. The worst player I've seen in my lifetime is Gareth Hall For all he's done for the club over the years Niall Quinn is the best thing that's ever happened to SAFC
Let's not forget Denis Smith who, at the time, did as much for SAFC as Quinny has done - relatively speaking. Great user name, Eye of The Black Cat!
