So your example of how WTO trade will affect UK business is flawed because it assumes companies won't take action to avoid the additional costs/ delays involved. If you think it only involves tariffs I'm afraid you are very much mistaken. The loss of passporting would result in our banks moving their EU business to the continent, port inspections would harm perishable goods and cause delays in supply chains.
Yes 14% of EU trade will be affected and that is worth more than the 44% of UK trade but in terms of who it will damage most the evidence is very clear. Any increased taxes the UK collect would go on paying extra benefit to support the poor and propping up our economy, assuming it will result in tax cuts or help our balance of trade is just false.
It is most definitely in our interests to avoid this scenario.

The grandstanding about how we will stand firm on free movement but want free trade, but if you nasty Europeans don't give us what we want we'll take the tariffs, is just bluster. Without free trade with our core export market, the damage that would do to both our output and future attractiveness as a base for global business would set us back decades.

The EU hold the ace anyway, as we need the financial passports or our financial sector is up **** creek.
