Maybe you should do a bit of research and find out for yourself then. Large film Studios only use tried and tested actors and regurgitate franchises, for this very reason. Independent Studios are on a hiding to nothing.[/QUOTE] I've seen all the research and arguments already, it's all online.
Also no offence to yourself but somebody with a lot of money can easily adopt a higher moral stance towards something like this and say well ' all piracy and copying is bad'- the thing is your average joe cannot afford to go watch or buy films and TV , diminishing piracy would have no effect at all on the costs because the media has always been overpriced.
The irony is I buy mostly everything myself and subscribe to Sky, but I can see how I'm the sucker doing that in a lot of ways
That's the ****test argument ever - if you cant afford it dont have it. I'd love a Ferrari, but I cant afford one, I dont go and nick one to use as I see fit.
The principal is the same and it's not the big studios and recording artists that suffer most from pirating, they can afford teams of lawyers tracking things down, getting things seized and pulled from YouTube etc, it's the small studios and artists that lose out, if people just share the stuff without paying for it, they can't survive.
I'm guessing the majority of people on here would disagree as they are the ones looking for streams every match day, I pay for Sky myself but if I didn't I would have no qualms watching a stream. Do you never watch streams then, or have you never taped anything off the radio?
No I havent. I pay for BT sport and I rarely even watch us when we're on it. And I have taped stuff off the radio but nothing that I could ever buy elsewhere.
I can see both points of view to be honest, but you can almost 100percent guarantee fellas like the chap who initiated this discussion have breached copyright themselves before in some way, maybe without even knowing it
Its not the same thing - you said its about people with money taking a moral stance. Even if what i occasionally record is breaking copyright rules, I would never steal anything that I could otherwise pay for.
I've never knowingly purchased a fake copy of an OLM piece (and I have bought them) but online is always tricky isn't it. I was looking at some Trojan stuff the other day and they pop up on loads of sites. So how do you know where to buy from and where not? (Trojan specifically if you like, but clothing in general too)
If you're buying clothing online, the easiest way to make sure it's genuine, is to buy it directly from the brands own website, failing that buy it from one of their stockists. It's not usually difficult to tell if a retailer online is genuine, either use a well known one (House of Fraser, John Lewis etc), or look to make sure they sell a selection of similar brands, if someone has lots of similar brands with brand descriptions etc and they've been around a while, they're likely to be genuine (most have an actual store as well, so you can check them out). Where it gets more tricky, is when you buy from places like ebay and Amazon, there's hundreds of people printing logos cheap on tee-shirts, these are usually given away by the prices, or the fact that one seller has the same tee-shirt (unbranded) with loads of different brands logo's on the front. I have an arrangement with these retailers (as do most brands), where we can get the stuff pulled whenever we spot it, but it's never-ending, as soon as I get a few pulled down, a few more appear. Price is the single biggest give-away, if you see a site selling Ralph Lauren polo's for £20, then they'll almost certainly be fake.
Erm... fancy moving this argument to it's own thread? I've seen the new Tarzan film this morning. Not that good. Even my favourite actor, Christoph Waltz, couldn't really save it.
this movie is responsible for the international rise of Coulrophobia http://www.ew.com/article/2016/07/13/it-movie-pennywise-first-look it it being remade and is out late next year
It was technically a TV mini-series, but I'm surprised the original was never released in cinemas. I'd say John Wayne Gacy is the likely modern reason people are afraid of clowns, even if they don't know it. It did definitely have a big influence though. Pennywise builds off the fear people already had and just amplified it. This article about it is quite interesting. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/halloween/11194653/Why-are-we-so-scared-of-clowns.html
Can we just go back to films now please, I think it's run its course and I can't really be arsed to move all this stuff to another thread. Ta.
Just about to use my ****ing ridiculously expensive and no way worth it tv licence to watch a film..... Day 195, film 195," Shaun of the dead"....
