In what has been a very quiet few months for the Tigers in terms of transfers, HCST have a look back at some of the best City signings from the past 16 years... http://hullcitysupporterstrust.com/hull-citys-best-signings-of-the-new-millennium/ There's a full write up on each player on the link, but in summary: 1. Ian Ashbee 2. Andy Dawson 3. Stuart Elliott 4. Geovanni 5. Michael Turner 6. Dean Windass (second spell) 7. Honourable Mentions Jay Jay Okocha (2007) – Landmark signing despite not playing a massive amount of football at the club. Boaz Myhill (2003) – Key member of all 3 promotion winning sides. Curtis Davies (2013) – Player of the season in 2013/14. Nick Barmby (2004) – shock return of the local hero. Stephen Hunt (2009) – player of the season 2009/10. Stuart Green (2002) – Key member of back to back promotion teams. Damien Delaney (2002) – Player of the season 2003/04. Frazier Campbell (2007 – Loan) – Top Goalscorer in 2007/08 promotion season.
Hunt, and especially Green, should be nowhere near that list. Leon Cort and Garcia were better signings than both of those. Bo was also a better signing than Geovanni. Interesting that 2 of the top 3 were Molby signings.
I genuinely forgot my favourite City player was a Molby signing. Though I don't particularly want to remember much about Molby.
I'd swap Dawson for Elliott personally. Dawson was brilliant and contributed loads in his time with us - but Elliott was an absolute goal scoring machine.
We could all argue about that list for days but at least the main ones (Ashbee, Dawson, Elliott, Windass, Myhill and Barmby) are in there somewhere. I personally would have included Ryan France. I've also just read "The understated legacy of Hull City's meteoric rise" article underneath, and I think it makes some good points. Swansea and Bournemouth's rises have rightly been praised, but, correct me if I'm wrong, our rise doesn't really get mentioned much. Also, ask 99% of football fans across the Country who Ian Ashbee is and they'll have no idea, he's gotten nowhere near as much praise as he deserves for his unique achievement.
I did think about France but he didnt really have the impact of the others. He was always really a bit-part and would have only been in there for his story. Price was a better signing than Green as well.
I loved Pricey, we could do with the odd character like him now, McShane was probably the closest we've had recently.
He dived too much. People have a go at Elmo but Elliott was something else. He was also too preachy. I'll try a list, in descending order: Ian Ashbee Rambo Billy Damian Delaney Justin Whittle Andy Dawson Dean Windass Garry Parker Bo Myhill Richard Jobson Gareth Roberts Nb this is favourite players in response to Quill, not best signings this century.
Yeah I know, it was in response to Quill saying Elliott is his favourite player. I'd already covered in earlier posts about who'd make my 'signings of this millennium'.
In the post you replied to, I said number one, not favourite, as in that post I was referring to the OP list. Hence why I said you're weird, because he isn't in your top 10 of this century.
I was thinking of your earlier post on the same thread, when you said Elliott was your favourite City player. I actually said he wouldnt be in my top 10 favourite players, not signings this century.
A little mention for one player who's goal saved our club from God knows what hardship & turmoil? DIAME
