Yes, I believe it does show a reasonable level of intelligence, but unfortunately it is applied in a poor fashion.

An anonymous internet board allows some folk to be either mischievous without real accountability or bad intent, or just plain bad, which more demonstrates their personality fault than their intelligence.

Some, on here, are in danger of slipping from the first to the second; perhaps they have always been there, but simply cover it well, most of the time.

Let me tell you a story. Two years ago I went to India. Before I could board a plane I had to apply to the Indian embassy in the UK for a visa. If I had failed to do this the airline would have refused to let me fly.
The OP was referring to the reverse situation where a foreign national applies to the British government before travelling so they are allowed to board a plane bound for the UK

It couldn't have been that great in your day if you don't know whether to use 'to' or 'too'.

I laid out all the reasons why his assertion is complete bollocks in a post last night. And that's not the first time, either.

I don't intend to go through it all again now.

You know, maybe pedantry is a national sport up in Yorkshire? Personally, I'm finding it very boring!....

The fault lies in the use of an arbitrary demographic that is being used for a dubious purpose.
Free movement in the EU discriminates against non EU citizens and so any demographic that is predominantly found outside of the EU can be said to be discriminated against as a part of the whole, be they, black, Latin American, Hindu or Inuit

I know the situation. That is the airline that wouldn't allow you to fly without a visa from india. It's nothing to do with the UK government.
    The "OP" said:
I’mBetterThanYouIWentTo.. said: “how many countries with a predominantly white population require a visa for the purpose of their visit before their citizens can even board a flight or ferry bound for the UK?” #9533

what he should have said was: how many airlines or ferry companies with a predominantly white population require a visa for the purpose of their visit before non-UK citizens can even board a flight or ferry bound for the UK

    he mixed up
"countries" and "airlines and ferry companies"
    and
    "their citizens" with "non-UK citizens"

I think you'll find it's down to speed typing rather than a lack of understanding. But if you think that a mistake like that damns a whole generation's education feel free.

I am in London. Feel free to remove yourself from the debate. I'm sure you will find somewhere else to bullshit how much "internet wealth" you have.

    Pete, you're an idiot!

I have never personally brought up the subject of my wealth. Why? Because It's my ****ing business, and nobody else's - ok?

    I'm very comfortable, thank you....

one boy's "pedantry" is another man's "getting it right"
if you think it's fine to just write nonsense without being willing to admit your mistake then carry on. don't expect any respect though.
Before you squeal - I know you weren't the OP.

I'm sure you are comfortable ... but having no shame isn't something you should be comfortable with

What the OP wrote isn't wrong and everyone except you understood it. As someone else has already tried to highlight these airlines only refuse you because if they didn't they would be liable for bringing you back so ultimately it is our government that causes the airline to refuse you.

The EU messed up when going from a small group of relatively equally wealthy nations which could have managed freedom of movement and the euro to letting in poorer countries. This changed from "freedom of movement" to "move west" and ruined the poorer countries ability to manage their economies.
They should have had a two tier europe and helped the poorer countries to attempt a realistic transition.

    Was - wasn't. Did - didn't Is - isn't.

Apparently, that qualifies as debate in some parts!....

the countries don't require a visa before their citizens can even board a flight
the UK requires a visa when they arrive and so the airlines and ferry companies check they have one so they dont have to return them

You can read, obviously, so it is just understanding you have a problem with.

It's not hard,Tobes, keep trying, you'll get there, eventually. :emoticon-0105-wink:
