Clarkson to be Foreign Secretary surely? You can just imagine him leaving week-long negotiations with North Korea...

My eldest brother's far bedroom has the floor up as new heating pipes are going in. Earlier this evening I heard him wail at the cat, Don't go in there, NO.! The cat, of course did exactly the opposite, especially as it was being despaired with at high volume. So I went in there and sure enough, right in the recesses under the floorboards was the cat. After a bit of cajoling, which got zero response, I put my arm in there and the cat made the mistake of turning around to escape. Grabbing a tail, I pulled. All the while apologising to the cat while it meowed to the retreating joists. Then I grabbed it under the belly and got her out. Was she pissed off with me.! Never mind, I can certainly stand a bit of unpopularity as long as she's safe. ;)

Here's the post I meant to write when I got sidetracked by the cat story [hope you find yours Jasper].

Back in the early Naughties I was handed the first Harry Potter book to read. I still remember throwing it down at page 50 exclaiming what a puerile waste of my time it was and that the author couldn't write for toffees. Skip forward to last week and I was curious enough to watch The Philosopher's Stone [2001]. Guess I'm a sucker for punishment. Yep, it actually looked good, but the script, editing, direction, and the acting, by both kids and adults, was nothing short of appallingly poor. Apparently Warner Bros stuck very closely to the original book. That figures.

So, you'll obviously think me utterly mad that last night I watched The Chamber of Secrets [2002]. Tbf, it was a lot better. I didn't feel any desire to gouge my eyes out with knitting needles, for a start. Nor seal up my ears with silicone mastic. In fact, script, editing, direction and acting were all improved. It still wasn't what I'd call a decent film, but it was OK-ish. They must have departed from the book a bit though, because this was quite bearable in its own quaint way.

Maybe, like the James Bond series that I recently ran through, I may find some entertainment if lower my expectations just enough. LOTRs this isn't. ;)
