The Cap on Non-EU Workers Prevents the NHS From Recruiting Nurses
This statement is taken directly from the government’s Migration Advisory Committee Review of Nursing which was published in March 2016:

“Nursing was the occupation most severely affected by the monthly limit being reached, with over 2,700 nursing applications refused as a result.”

The monthly limit is the cap on non-EU workers imposed by the government in an attempt to be seen to be doing something about immigration. The government currently has an annual cap of 20,700 places under the Tier 2 immigration route, and that cap is divided into monthly limits. According to the government’s own committee, last year this country turned away more than 2,700 non-EU nurseswho wanted to settle in the UK, and had job offers, because the monthly non-EU immigration limit had been reached.

I think you might find he might be more able to understand this if you were to point out that it isn't necessarily a deliberate policy objective, but simply an unfortunate policy consequence.

    But I wouldn't bank on it ...

I did try underlining the word "consequence" on the posts where I asked it. So you're quite right to doubt they'd grasp it.

I was aware of the nursing problem but didnt know there was a cap affecting it
The nursing problem is complicated by the fact that many non EU Nurses use the UK as a stepping stone to US access. I know a private hospital who hired a large number of nurses from Thailand and Singapore, gone after 12 months because they had what they needed. They now hire nursing staff from Italy but the language barrier takes time and so they are taken on as healthcare assistants until this is resolved. I know a couple of people at this hospital who voted leave, their reasons weren't about getting non EU nurses to come it was a problem relating to our visa system and a conflict with EU legislation that meant when they got a non EU nurse who was good they were unable to stay more than 5 years.

I understand what you are saying and agree; I don't believe Dutch disagrees.

What is not being discussed is what the EU is; the point Dutch seems to be making is the consequence of the different movement controls, into the UK, between the EU and the rest of the world. I agree he has a point, although

I will stay opinion on how that might be used to support some further opinion or argument.

Sorry to go on about nursing. As far as Im concerned the underlying issue is nothing to do with immigration
It's an aging population and a failure to train enough staff in response to the problem.

Spot on. Massive under-investment in the NHS coupled with a growing and ageing population is causing the problems. Add to this a backdrop of private companies being encouraged to come in and 'cherry pick' the profitable parts of the service, thus leaving an underfunded NHS to deal with the rest.

I wouldn't disagree with that at all. I'm not sure why we lack trained nurses. I suspect a part of it is down to the change from SRN/SEN to degree level entry.

Underfunding is clearly a factor. The reasons for that underfunding is a matter of debate.

A consequence of that shortfall is the need to recruit from outside the Country.

Again, I don't disagree. It's more the consequences of that that brought it into the discussion.

I'm not going to go into all of your so called 'points' one by one because to be honest, I'm extremely ****ing bored with arguing semantics with people who just have to be right.

It is a very reasonable assumption that of 3.8mill UKIP voters ( who would all have voted leave!) a significant proportion are motivated by reasons of immigration and/or race. Farage himself is a racist bigot.

As for your dimwit mate. His 'point' is a non point. The consequences of EU policy?? What a load of bollocks!

You may have noticed that indigenous Europeans are white? Something to do with its geographical location perhaps? Although I'll grant you they get darker the further south you go. Funny old world!...

I'm really too bored too go through it all again. The European Union is just that. Not the European and anybody else who wants to join Union.

His point about any form of racism, intended or non intended, is total inane bollocks!

Now, I've had a nice meal out with my lady. I'm going for a swim and then to bed.

Why is that a reasonable assumption? What do you consider a significant proportion?

I don't necessarily disagree, just curious

It is not a consequence of EU policy. It is a consequence of evolution and geographical location that countries in Europe are populated by mainly white people. If Europe was moved 2500 kilometres south the country would, in many many thousands of years have a population that would be mainly black.
