Too expensive for a 29 year old who never played at Prem level.
I would like him but that's a bit steep IMO.

I really rate McCormack but I have to agree DD. I'd rather that money be spent on someone like Assombolonga with the potential to grow, and have re-sale value

Should we sign McCormack we would have spent approx £ 21,500,000 on two players with a combined age of 58 ! <yikes>

I can't see us spending that kind of money on anybody, much less McCormack. We wouldn't spend it as a Premier League club, I can't see it now. However much we make from player sales, I can't see that fee being justifiable.

Much will depend on Canos' temperament. Redmond looked good in spells but quite often drifted out of games and failed to track back effectively when the ball was lost. If Canos can establish an effective 'Iberian' partnership with Pinto, it could make all the difference. I'm also hoping that Alan Irvine will bring another level of coaching and development to the squad from which the younger players especially could benefit. The plus side of being in the Championship is that these young players should get a chance to break into the starting line-up and make a difference this season.

If prefer a £10m bid for Assombalonga tbh... less for a younger player. I guess McCormack's regular amount of goals would make him a pretty good option . £15m would be too much... £12m still too much but if he scored 20 and we went up, itd be worth it

Let's just hope that AN and his assistants adopt a different approach than they did with Redmond and also play them regularly and in their preferred position!!!

I'd like to think Naismith might stay at least until the January transfer window and repay some of his extortionate fee!!!!

I just cannot believe that we signed him and allowed a relegation clause that allowed him to leave for less than we paid for him. After all, DM was still at the helm then. Looks like a total fabrication, putting it politely. Canos? From the scousers reaction we may have a ( very ) good'un to replace the excellently frustrating Redmond. But I remember feeling the same when we signed DeLaet.

I also think that this is just more lazy journalism from the Daily Fail.

This article quoted by DHCanary above linking us to McCormack for £13m - what a pile of doo-doo.
If we weren't going to spend that on one player last year to help protect PL status, why would we now while wallowing in the (possibly - ask ITFC) eternal mire of the championship? <grr> <doh>

Admittedly Naismith didn't do as well as I hoped when we signed him, but I do kind of hope he will stay and try to make up for a poor last season.

A Liverpool fan I know says Canos was a hot prospect with them, and that as well as going forward he tracks back and tackles

Let's hope / assume that Southampton will do their best to add the highlighted words to Nathan Redmond's vocabulary <ok>

I have a theory, quite possibly totally wrong, concerning DM. His stance in transfer negotiations, by events unfolding later, seem to point to to his tactics disconcerting clubs, agents and player we approached, to the point where negotiations were fruitless. Last window we were linked with numerous players, totally unsuccessfully in all cases except Klose and Pinto, Naismith was a recruit from the summer in all but signature. In his efforts to keep us financially viable he played, or appeared to, hardball to the extreme. The Brady deal is a case in point. If it was not for the fact that Robbie wanted to stay in the EPL, our negotiations were pretty poor from my reading of events.

Sorry for the multiple posts, but it took four minutes for the first one to activate so I naturally thought the internet was playing up.

That's good to know, Suffolk. Nathan seemed to think it wasn't allowed much of the time.
