No, but Google tells me it has a Brothel District. Is it similar to Mucca Bugga, near Blackpool? The best thing about Reno is it's near Lake Tahoe; like Blackpool is near Lake Windermere, and the rest of God's masterpiece, The Lake District. There's often, but not always, a silver lining: Vegas is a bit more difficult, but I'm not allowed to talk about Groom Lake; it's not even on most maps.
Have you been to Sorrento before? If not I highly recommend day trips to Capri and Positano. Both stunning. Always interested to hear how many go to Vegas, it's literally the worst place I have ever been but I'm definitely in the minority when I say that. Went to Santorini for my jollies last week, it was pleasant.
Just back, well yesterday, from Benidorm, no sniggering please, 35 degrees plus is too hot for me but we got a good deal so gave it a try in July. We are not beach freaks or go all that way just sup a pint of John Smiths or whatever in the sun. Nope we jump on a bus, any bus, just to see other areas, Alfaz, Albir, Atea, are just a few. Then a stroll, very slow stroll, up to the Cross on the mountain top at the end of Levante beach and take in the panoramic views of Benidorm. Not theme park addicts either so gave them a miss but we did chill out in the Old Town bars with some vino. Las Vegas has been mentioned and like Benidorm and the booze there is so much to see and explore instead of the gambling, which is just as well as I'm not a gambler. Top of the Stratosphere and Eiffle Tower give geat views of the surrounding areas and its surprising how big the Vegas area is. Of course a flight over the Grand Canyon and the helicopter flight over the Vegas strip were awesome but so were the shows we saw, Celine Dion especially, this was prior to her husband's death. I still find it hard to beat the value holidays National Coach Holidays do, but of course many people don't 'do' coaches but they are missing out on some great short, and longer stay trips.
Yes we have friends at each place mentioned except New York, and we will be staying with them. We alternate years about last year they came to us in Beautiful Wiltshire. We all met on a disastrous (except for making wonderful friends ) Rhine River Cruise ,when the Rhine was flooded and the boats unable to get under the bridges, we were bussed everywhere. We vowed to keep in touch and we all have.
We drove from Vancouver to Seattle a few weeks ago to go and watch the Mariners, not the most inspiring of drives but well worth it when you get to Safeco field. We wanted to head down to Portland too but having drove from Calgary to Vancouver earlier in the week we were getting sick of sitting in a car together by that point!
Cheers to Ellewood and Simongray re tips for Vegas and California, some great ideas there which I haven't found on tripadvisor! May restart a thread on here nearer the time. Only reason we are staying at Bakersfield is to break the journey and roughly halfway between Yosemite and Vegas (via Death valley). Would really like to see more of the coastal road, but Yosemite shaded it.
When we did California, instead of LA, we stayed for a week at Santa Monica which was on the advice of CanadaTiger. I really liked it there. We also did the drive from San Francisco but did it too fast in one day. We stopped off for lunch at Santa Barbara again on Canadas advice, only downside to that was we wished we had stayed there longer.....
What a waste, Man, From "Brizzy" you should be able to paddle across the sandbank (up to your knees) and Be on Lindeman's Island, or Great Keppel. Next time , Save Your 2 Cents.
I went in 1982 for a conference there at the MGM Grand. Accidentally locked myself out of my room when I was nude and had to make a long trek to the reception desk to get another room key. Will always remember Reno!
We are going on a river cruise (first ever cruise ) along the Rhine and Danube in a couple of weeks and then off to NZ in February
I've done both ends of the road (LA up and San Fransisco down) but not the full thing. Brilliant driving, and I don't even like driving
Last time in Vegas we wanted to go to LA for the day. Four hour road trip (ish), or $60 return flights MacCarran to LAX, (40 mins). No brainer, flew with South West (their equiv to Ryanair and the pioneer of low cost airlines). Had full day in LA then flew back to Vegas on the night, great view coming in seeing the strip at night.
