Sunderland have been linked with a £4million move for ex-loanee Danny Simpson - just two months after he lifted the Premier League title.

The Black Cats’ search for a new right-back is becoming ever more pressing after a deal for Inter Milan’s Davide Santon collapsed at the 11th hour last week.

Speculation today has suggested that Leicester defender Simpson could be an option for Sunderland, nine years after his loan spell at the Stadium of Light helped Roy Keane’s side to promotion from the Championship.

Despite being a key part of Leicester’s title-winning side, Simpson only has 12 months remaining on his contract with the Foxes.

And that could open the door for the 29-year-old - who worked under Sam Allardyce at Blackburn - to leave in a cut-price deal.

Simpson was unbeaten in a Sunderland shirt during his 14 appearances for the Black Cats in the 2006-07 campaign after getting his first taste of Premier League football in a loan move from Manchester United.

    Simpson eh.

I'd be surprised if Leicester let any of their champions go for 4mil but if so it'd be a bargain for someone that has proved themselves more than up to standard.

He seems like a bit of a knob but aren't they all these days.

Don't rate him all that highly. He'll only go downhill from here wherever he is.

No from me. One of the weakest parts of that PL winning team. Seen enough of him to know he isn't that good. One swallow doesn't make a summer. He's been more average than decent across the years.

This lack of activity is worrying, a good signing would do wonders, whats happened to getting the signings in early, the Mags have done it, its, its time we did.

Sam said we're looking for players to improve the starting 11 first. Mags are targeting a completely different level of player, a level which contains many more options. You think obtaining these kind of players is easy? Slowed by a big tournament, difficult negotiations with the pound dropping in value but TV money going up. And on top of that we're still shackled by years of bad spending.

Yeah we could throw money at players and get them in. But that means blowing our budget quicker and not being able to get all the players in we need. Think about it. It's a complex situation. None comparable to fizzy pop teams with carbonated transfers.

Most likely, everyone films everything these days.

If there was a zombie apocalypse 80% of the world's population would be killed off due to them standing still, slack jawed, while the zombie horde approaches and they do nothing other than get their phone out, point it and press record.

There's an argument we'd be better off.
