Honestly his past managerial record is a bit of a horror show. He was on the managerial scrap heap and desperate! West Ham? He had a club who were way too big for the championship and failed to get them promoted after only managing to reach the play offs. He succeeded the next year, but again underachieved and had to do it through the play offs. Yes there was an FA Cup final but Ruud Gullit had one of those and he's a complete knacker. They were on a releagtion charge when eventually removed. A poor time of that there is no doubt. Charlton? he failed to save them from relegation, was hated by the club supporters, finsihed 11th in the championship, and then was near the foot when he left by mutual consent before he was lynched. A poor time again. Southampton. Despite having by far the best resources to gain promotion, Pardew failed to do so. He did win a football league trophy, a minor competitoin but nonetheless it had to be won. He then fell out with the board and amidst various other rumours and reports of player unrest he went the distance. He did well with Reading though in his first job...............

As much as I might not rate him as a manager, if someone picks you off the managerial scrap heap, and gives you a PL job you clearly don't deserve, would you kick up a fuss? His contract is probably very specific, he was probably happy just to get back into management so signed up. Seems harsh to then call him spineless, he has to do what he is told or he'll jobless and there'll be no pay off if he breaks the terms of his contract.

Wow.......just wow! even if Pards wants to keep these players, if the board doesn't there is very little he can do about it, moaning to the press is gonna do little more than worry players and fans more aswell as causing more unrest. as to those saying he should resign if he isnt getting his own way, what kind of situation would we be left in???? no manager with less than 2 weeks till the season!! going by his few signings i'm looking forward to the style pards is trying to imprint on the team!

To say Pardew played a part in this is naive. He wanted Barton to stay the whole time and has had nothing but praise for him. The fact Barton can't accept not taking free kicks or being captain for 1 pre-season game shows his immaturity and arguing with Staff, Cabaye and youth players was hardly going to help his case at all. I don't blame Pardew for this actually, It's all down to him and the board not being able to get on.

pardew quote " i want to get players in, to get the supporters off their seats "

well i,m not over excited about the first part, but he's achieved the second part alright (but not in the sense he imagined!!)

Pardew has said the following throughout last season and close season

he wanted to keep caroll - he's gone
he wanted to keep nolan - he's gone
he wanted to keep barton - he's going
he wants to keep enrique - he's going

i wish his next quote is I want to keep smith and perch

I imagine him going to ashley and giving him his 'wish list' and ashley turning around and saying - NO, then pardew skulks back out thinking what can i do then, nothing. Get a spine ffs

An important point for me when reading comments relating to Joey engineering a move is Pardew. As some say he wanted him to stay, praised him. He also made it quite clear Joey wanted to stay where he was. So these fans having a go at Barton claiming he has engineered a move, and wanted it all along, are you all calling Pardew a liar? Can't have it both ways. Pardew is failry innocent for me. He may have signed a contract which means he has to come as spineless, but I think that's understandable when you can't get a job in your chosen profession. Equally it is wrong to suggest Barton has somehow engineered this and has wanted it all along unless you are now saying Pardew is a liar.

If things keep going the way they have then that will at least be partially true, cause a lot of supporters probably won't be in their seats.
