In April, seems roads are closed across Yosemite, Only way is driving south and then back up. by stopping at Bakersfield, it gives us more time in Yosemite and makes Death Valley more feasible????
    Though feel free to disagree.

Bloody hell blast from the past.
I had some great holidays in Salou early 1990's.
Snoopys was good, Crocs full of Spanish from Barcelona who liked to throw pint glasses on you from great heights as you queued to get in.
Bus Stop and 007 bar near the fountain on main beach were the more British fun pub types.
I can remember one day waking up and all our patio furniture had been stolen.
We went down to reception to complain, they shouted at us in Spanish for ten minutes and pointed to the skip outside with our missing patio furniture in.....that someone had thrown from the top floor........apparently......in the early hours......
    Absolutely zero recollection at all...........

Also that year every pint you bought in Snoopys you got 10 cigs free, Fortuna.
I was on about 40 a day, and had never smoked in my life.....

I can remember pulling the filters off and telling one of my mates they were joints.
He went purple and looked distinctly ill smoking those.....

    Aah, good times......

Very envious of your USA trips planned.
Been to Vegas a few times (has got progressively more run down and dodgier each time especially at the Stratosphere end of the Strip), and LA once, but would love to go to New York and do a coast to coast/Route 66 type thing..........
Would also love to go stormchasing in the States......but thats a different kettle of fish altogether.

Yeah, my niece is getting married in Vegas. It's also Mrs Askew's 50th a few months earlier so we combined the two. When I saw the cost of the flights, you just want to cram as much as possible in!.

Great place to get married, and even with travelling costs so much cheaper than a UK over priced bash.
Hope you have a great time, you staying somewhere posh?

They will be closed because of the snow pack. I dont think they open up until like May at the earliest.

Im going to either Santa Cruz, Monterrey Bay or some other beach place near there in August. Not a big deal for me since its only a few hour drive to get there. I went to Napa last weekend for the day.

No, got a discounted wedding group deal at Flamingo. Did pay a bit extra for a view of the strip.

San Francisco and then the costal road is awesome mate. We did Monterrey Bay, then down the coast stopping short of LA and then inland through Bakersfield (I wouldn't stay tbh) and then had a night up in the mountains at Lone Pine, then down through Death Valley to Vegas.

Great spot, an older more traditional Vegas hotel but right in the middle of the Strip.
You have Ceasars Palace opposite, Bellagio fountains next to Ceasars, and Venetian going the other way.
Also, at the back of your hotel you have the monorail station, can travel up to the Stratosphere end of the strip one way, and the MGM the other.
If you have been to Vegas before then apologies you will already know all this.
If not..remember you can freely walk in and out of every other hotel/casino (not the private pool areas).

Get signed up to Groupon Las Vegas.....we got a load of excellent coupons to use whilst there....
For instance Senor Frogs in Treasure Island (Mexican Restaurant/Bar/Club), paid $25 dollars for a Groupon which gave you a free bar from 9PM till close........and when they were charging $8 a pint, this made it a great deal.
Also got vouchers for the high roller (worlds highest observation wheel) with free drinks package...

Also if you fancy a show, there are booths selling tickets for that nights shows on the strip which they haven't shifted at bargain prices.

We stayed in the Stratosphere so could go to the top of the tower for free, but as a non-resident it will cost you around 10 bucks.
Well worth going up for the view and going in what was the worlds fastest lift...ground level to 110 floors in about 15 seconds. (gets your ears).
All the white knuckle rides at the top of the tower are great if you are into that sort of thing.
(Another tip, get the ride operator to take your photo on your own phone whilst the ride is filling up to avoid being scammed for photos on way out).

Will stop talking about Vegas now....I get told off for it lol....but love the place...........
    Any questions just ask.....
And you can do it on a budget.......(although exchange rate is not good at moment)

Depends on what you like. A day trip with enough time to hang out,, probably Santa Cruz if you like your traditional beach with a pier and board walk (thats where the movie Lost Boys was filmed).

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Santa_Cruz_Beach_Boardwalk

If you want to go surfing then the best place to surf would be Pleasure Point (thats where the movie Chasing Mavericks was filmed and where the yearly Mavericks surfing competition is held). I think you need to be a fairly experienced surfer to surf there though. The first link has a live camera of the surf.

If you like aquariums and beaches to just hang out at then probably Monterey Bay. Thats where the Monterey Bay aquarium is obviously. You can see whales, dolphins and sea otters from the aquarium some times.

If you arent a beach person like me you could go to Fort Ross which is the southern most Russian fort built in 1812.

I know that many people love the place, and one of my sons was married there, but Vegas is absolutely my least favourite place on this planet, closely followed by Reno. I've been to both places several times, for professional reasons I will not disclose on here.
Although both have excellent shows and low-cost, high-quality food (to bring in the punters to the casinos and deprive them of their hard-earned money, partly by plying them with free alcohol), the ubiquitous presence of countless grannies (cue the Likely Lads) putting countless quarters into countless one-arm bandits and slot machines is, for me, repulsive.
These places are both kinda like Blackpool, with heat -- far too much of it.
    Now Southport, however, ...

I've been to an NHL game in Vancouver and an MLS game in Seattle (same stadium as NFL). You'll enjoy them both. All three are beautiful cities with lots to do and good eats. One of the best book stores in the world also happens to be in Portland, if you're into that kind of thing.
