Oh - is that why they are rich? They are not rich due to family and private education, inherited wealth or any other reason eh? And the man who works all hours to struggle to raise a family but is not blessed with a pot of cash to gamble with deserves his lot does he? Instead of sound long term investments and planning by pension funds we should indulge in smart playing with the stock market shall we? George Soros - Brexit appears to have been designed to add to your billions.

Having picked myself of the floor after great holidays and returning to the act of stupidity by selfish UK find this thread still running. Oh for the start of football season proper to divert from these sad affairs. Having got splinters on the fence of the leave/remain debate finally came down on the remain side after thinking about the consequences for future generations. Unfortunately the racists and morons took over the asylum that is the UK and pulled us from the bigger market who now have to make us fail to stop others from following suit. What swung it for me was the belief thast change is more easy to bring about from within than without, we'll soon be on the outside and with a much smaller stick to create opportunity for freedom of movement and expanded choice which is true wealth for future generations and for what? Xenophobia....

The present UK capital gains tax system is all wrong, it does not encourage long term investment apart from the Entrepreneurs Relief scheme. Theresa May should change it so it is more like the French system which reduces the tax liability over a certain number of years, so after holding an asset for say 15 years there would be no tax to pay.

I understand George Soros did not get involved with betting against sterling this time but he surely would like some more doom and gloom from the remain side so he can pick up UK shares cheaply and benefit on sterling's eventual recovery.

    Caring, unbiased, nice, terrific....
It was never about the money in my pocket either... and I made the decision for my nieces and nephews. However I object to being lied to (which we have been by the brexit camp) and now that I know that I have been adversely affected by the result I am bloody well going to complain about it even more. I see Yorkie has had 20% of the value of his pension wiped out too. Thing is, there is absolutely no reason whatsoever to believe that things are going to improve. We have no manufacturing base of our own to speak of, no heavy industry and we've sold off our mineral assets so we the people do not get to benefit from those either. It will take 10+ years to get the oil in Sussex up and properly running and even then, will we benefit???? Banking? Well, we're not going to be in the big club so no. And we can't all be bankers, nor do we want to be.
Furthermore there is an extreme likelihood that much scientific research that has been done in conjunction with our partners in the U.K. will be relocated onto the mainland. The reports I'm reading are less than favourable. It's not just about the money.

Twelve energy providers have pulled fixed-rate tariffs and replaced them with more expensive deals since 23 June, according to comparison website uSwitch.

The website found a dozen dual-fuel deals had been replaced since the referendum with new offers costing up to £105 a year more for the average customer.

It said wholesale energy costs had been rising for the past three months, and that the UK’s position as a net importer of energy meant a falling pound was pushing up prices.

To be expected in the short term I expect we will be told. It is the poorest who will suffer most.

Should be expected, most of the big utility companies are German owned - well accept for EDF which is owned by the French government or the unions depending if they are on strike or not.

So what is the plan? Stop buying from them, take them over? It looks as if the country is still hoping that EDF will build a power station to keep the lights on. I doubt that the new government will be in a position to get them to drop their prices in the light of recent events.

Is this meant for children? This should be a debating thread.

I can't stand your decision, h, but I respect that it wasn't for economic reasons, but rather for the long-term, for your children.

I think you were wrong :emoticon-0110-tongu but your reasons were good. :emoticon-0100-smile
