Cost us £45m in total including wages, yes he had a few great games but for that money it's what you'd expect! No doubting his ability as a player but he was far from reliable, both in terms of injuries and morale. He got nowhere near 293 appearances. His record wasn't distastrous (26 in 71 in the league) and there was a brief period where we won if he played and didn't if he was injured, but overall he was a symbol of everything that was wrong at that time, and one of the reasons that the club ended up going down.
