I don't think he's captain material as it goes. ****ing good player though and he's been hugely successful.

His fellow Portugal team-mates just won their captain the European Championship medal now in his possession.

Maybe some day they'll get the credit they deserve, but yeah winning captain's lead their club/country to a collective victory.

Fergie's attempt at a "John Terry" failed miserably, he forgot the kit and shinpads.

Through your undying love for the feller you can't see that I'm sticking up for a group of players that includes Nani, so no bitterness there Shtan.
Maybe Nani and the others ain't your type and dont ring your bell but your bitterness that I had the audacity to not jump on the Ronaldo jizz wagon with you is somewhat amusingly hypocritical.

You may have a point with most of that, but they most certainly were deserved winners.

In the tournament as a whole you believe they were deserved winners? I think Germany/France/Italy/Wales are ahead of them.

I'm not much of a Ronaldo fan. He's a ****ing good player though.

He's certainly got under your skin though.

If Liverpool ever win anything again I'll be sure to point out that only the 11 who finished the final/last game deserve their medals!

Ahead of them how??? Only one of them reached the final, and they lost to Portugal. At the end of the day, Portugal successfully passed every stage of the competition, knocked out everyone they met and won the final. Nobody handed them that, they didn't get any byes into the next round, nobody cheated (although I'm surprised no Liverpool fans have claimed that yet lol). What's undeserved about any of that?

You may not have liked the manner in which they've done it, but that doesn't mean they didn't deserve it.

Of course they(or any other squad member)deserve their medals as well of course as the 11 that finished the final game.
But you're barking up the wrong tree lad, I never stated that your dashing dandy hero never deserved his medal, I pointed out that the entire aftermath of the win was all about him and not the rest of the team/squad that won the tournament.
So unless you want to discuss that point your opinion carry's as much strength as a fart in a hurricane Shtanley old chap.

Which takes us nicely back to the fact that this is a thread celebrating Ronaldo missing a penalty. Did he start the thread? Has he said since the final that it was all about him? Or is it just a bunch of bitter football fans obsessing about him? Answers on a Portuguese postcard!

    I really ****ing dislike Ronaldo.

But to see how happy he was to represent his country on the biggest European stage and win a trophy with them was quite nice to see.

Despite the likes of him, Bale, Rodriguez, Modric etc. being galacticos earning stupid money they all show huge pride in representing their countries. Funny comparing stars like this to the majority of the England squad who you feel aren't bothered whether England progress or go out in an international tournament.

I see Brendan has managed to turn Celtic round, beat 1-0 by Lincoln Red Imps in the CL 2nd round qualifier <doh>

This man has been mentioned as the next England manager <laugh>

Bitter about what?, he plays for RM not them up the East Lancs Rd, he's a great footballer but you either like his diva like antics and his never ending glances at the stadium big screens irritating or you dont.
But you seem to assume a dislike of him equals "bitterness", get a grip Shtanley its not like you'd give every player in the Portuguese squad/team the same protective arm as you're giving CR7, but I guess you reckon that makes you even handed and fair minded.<laugh>

Something as he's got inside your head.

Yeh, I'm sure the fact that he played for United has nothing to do with you being so interested in him!

there's no doubt he's a preening tart which is why I don't much care for him but he's also one of the most committed and dedicated players I've ever seen. Credit to him for that.

I think Lucaaas' comment is pretty spot on for a non Sporting, United, Real or Portugal fan without a rabid bias.

    "I really ****ing dislike Ronaldo.

But to see how happy he was to represent his country on the biggest European stage and win a trophy with them was quite nice to see."

If you're not driven by bitterness then I find it really odd that you're criticising a player for being so passionate about playing for his country. His celebrations seem to be what has upset you so much. I don't think he's come out with any comments about how it's all about him so your view can only be based on what you saw or think you saw.

I don't think there are any threads dedicated to the other Portuguese players. Why's that then?! I didn't start this thread by the way Paige, just dropped by to laugh at how it turned out.

Don't know, sounds par for the course for an England manager.
