I don't buy much of this. If there's anything to it, it's old.

If even Juncker has conceded that they can't get the backing for it!.....

Edit: And, to be clear, I would never support a federal Europe, especially run from Brussels. I very much doubt that there is anywhere near the popular support for it amongst the European citizens either.

The Independent is quoting Boris Johnson's views not giving a commentary of its own.

The Telegraph (which is eurosceptic anyway) is also quoting Boris Johnson's views.

The Metro is even less credible than The Express.

I don't put much emphasis on tabloid newspapers when it comes to "headline" stories like this. I'd listen more to a detailed, independent report on plans for a superstate. Even then, I don't think it is possible to impose it on nations as The Express was claiming. It simply wouldn't happen.

There was a fair bit about various parts of it, and how they were withholding the announcements until after the referendum, and that's pretty much what occurred, It's pretty recent stuff.

Do you think it would've happened... and with us part of it, even if the referendum had gone the other way?

No way, mate. People should and could have voted for the Europe we had. But a federal state? No way!...

I think if the referendum vote had gone the other way, the EU would have felt empowered. There's enough out there to show that it's been the long term plan, and that some of those in power were certainly looking to move it forwards, so yes, I believe it would have continued to head that way had we not voted out.

The EU we had was never really on offer, There are too many changes pending for that.

Maybe they were hoping to become like Oceania in 1984?

Yes, it was the long term plan - of some. But, as has been conceded, "the plan" of a few arch federalists only. In reality it's a pipe dream...

Well, maybe that's when we should have had a referendum then?....

The proof is in the pudding. The EU doesn't need the UK for a federal European superstate so lets see if it happens. I can't see it personally but who knows.

We'd have certainly been useful for it, but the out vote has shocked them, and left them realising that they're not quite as pwerful as they believed, and not all the people quietly swallow all of their bullshit..

There would be massive unrest and virtual civil war in numerous countries across Europe if they tried to implement this, which is why it will never happen.
