Not really, it was limited to Maths and Science only and is a one off report. The term"fallen" suggests a trend which you need to back up with more tabloid articles.

Given a warning to save harming the innocent.

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-36768140

HSBC was accused of letting drug cartels use US banks to launder funds.

The bank, which has its headquarters in London, paid a $1.92bn (£1.48bn) settlement but did not face criminal charges. No top officials at HSBC faced any charges.

Justice Department spokesman Peter Carr said a series of factors were considered when deciding how to resolve a case, including whether there may be "adverse consequences for innocent third parties, such as employees, customers, investors, pension holders and the public".

The 2012 settlement with HSBC detailed how the bank violated US sanctions by conducting business for customers in Iran, Libya, Sudan, Burma and Cuba.

HSBC accounts were also used by the Sinaloa drug cartel in Mexico and Norte del Valle cartel in Colombia to launder $881m.

The settlement allowed the bank to avoid pleading guilty to any wrongdoing.

The idea of a federal Europe reputedly came about in the late 1980's. The Soviet Union had fallen apart and all the old communist bloc states were nominally free.

France, not unaturally given fairly recent history, was concerned about the reunification of Germany. However, the French had this idea that, if they could persuade Germany to back it, would give them security and a prominent place in a new European superstate.

The reputed quid pro quo between them was that France would not object to or hinder German reunification, if they would back France's idea of a European state.

I don't suppose that either one would own up to exactly what I've said, but that was a view that was taken very seriously at the time.

I really can't see how they ever expected to pull that off tbh. It sounds like something the Emperor would've conjured up out of Star Wars ffs!

Have I said clearly enough that the Community we created is not an end in itself? It is a process of change, continuing in that same process which in an earlier period produced our national forms of life. The sovereign nations of the past can no longer solve the problems of the present: they cannot ensure their own progress or control their own future. And the Community itself is only a stage on the way of the organized world of tomorrow. Jean Monnet. 1952

That was the story going around in the earlyish '90's. It was taken seriously by many, without mentioning names.

Those were pretty much Churchill's views, at that time! But, you have to take into consideration the world as it was when those views were expressed. The world had just been through two catastrophic world wars in the previous 40 years! With France on one side, Germany on the other.

You can easily see how many espoused those views of unity as being the way to prevent a reoccurrence. However, it was over 60 yrs ago!

For me, it doesn't matter whether it was the intention of some or not. It was never going to happen. Where we actually got to however, was perfectly fine.

As I put in an earlier post, mate, it may have been the intention, but they forgot to ask the people what they thought!

    http://www.express.co.uk/news/politics/683739/EU-referendum-German-French-European-superstate-Brexit

The foreign ministers of France and Germany are due to reveal a blueprint to effectively do away with individual member states in what is being described as an “ultimatum”.

Under the radical proposals EU countries will lose the right to have their own army, criminal law, taxation system or central bank, with all those powers being transferred to Brussels.

Controversially member states would also lose what few controls they have left over their own borders, including the procedure for admitting and relocating refugees.

In the preamble to the text the two ministers write: "Our countries share a common destiny and a common set of values ??that give rise to an even closer union between our citizens. We will therefore strive for a political union in Europe and invite the next Europeans to participate in this venture."

The revelations come just days after Britain shook the Brussels establishment by voting to leave the European Union in a move some have predicted could leave to the break-up of the EU.

A number of member states are deeply unhappy about the creeping federalism of the European project with anti-EU sentiments running high in eastern Europe, Scandinavia and France.
