I think the fact it says "Where there is no vacancy" means the nominations are only for the challengers and the 20% condition only applies to them.

I thought the YTS were a form of apprenticeship. Thankfully I went in higher education at a time when we actually received grants.

I think the more relevant phrase is:
"nominations may be sought by potential challengers"
There's no mention of a leader needing to be nominated.

    Good post. <ok>

I am a great believer in some of the youth of our country (the majority), it is some of the parents, teachers and mentors who have let them down; some of them are entitled to feel let down by successive Governments, regardless of party politics.

I also believe that there is an element (the minority) of our youth who abuse our poor systems and their gullible parents. Society needs to be strict, but fair, compassionate, but strong, supportive, but demanding. None of that can be achieved unless there is honesty and integrity; so it is possible, in my opinion.

The fact they've put the condition "where there's no vacancy" means that any incumbent leader wouldn't need the 20% support. Otherwise why put the condition "where there's no vacancy" in there? IF it was a requirement for everyone including the leader to require the 20% support, they wouldn't have put that condition in. But hey, that's just my thinking, I'm not a Labour Party expert.

You're right in terms that it was a government funded initiative. From memory it covered sectors, not normally associated with apprenticeships as well as some which would have previously offered traditional apprenticeship schemes. It sounds ridiculous now, with the money awash in the sport, but most of the young professional footballers seemed to be "YTS boys"

The method of mastery is not being offered, it's already being used by many schools. We're using this already at ours. The money would be nice though <ok> It's been a bapitism of fire trying to change as children are having to adapt sharply. Personally, I'm all for this mastery of maths. It works well and is something we can take on board from other countries - hope you don't mind that Pete <whistle>

I've been a great believer of considering what other countries do as our education standards have fallen so far behind.

Sorry mate, but that was my point! Custard was suggesting that Boeing's confidence in the UK future was the reason, it's not!

Things are looking better each day, even the remainiacs at work have (mostly) come round to thinking "actually, this is quite exciting, we can become better than we would have done under the slow death imposed by the EU." There are the hardcore doom merchants like NSIS but on the whole, things are looking better and better.

Things certainly look better now that the spectre of Johnson/Gove leading the country has been killed off. Stupid ****s didn't even have a plan about how to replace Cameron when he inevitably resigned after a Leave win!

It was largely Thatcherite youth slave labour, dressed up as 'training'. It covered most disciplines including areas that were normally covered by apprenticeships. Unscrupulous firms would taken on a dozen lads knowing that at the end of their 2 year scheme only a couple (if that) would be offered full time employment.

It means that it is irrelevant to whether leaving has improved or hindered out opportunities for these contracts. The post that started this particular discussion inferred that the contract was due to Brexit.
