Great news! With Ryan virtually 27, this will keep him here for his best years so Liverpool etc can do one. Although I've always got the opinion that RB would turn down a big money move if it was presented to him as he's seen that side of the game. He's flying with us and is in and around the England squad so why move to bench warm?
Another vote of confidence for the board, just shows the players are all on-board with the clubs vision? Pity a lot of us supporters don't seem to have the same confidence?
If others have an alternative view it is still valid as an exchange of communication and education. Being positive can be considered too happy a position. Pity is slightly condescending. Im not sure this shows all the players are on board, whilst it is a good thing Ryan has signed it really doesn't indicate everyone feels the same.
Of course, Bertrand was in a hugely strong negotiating position to not only demand a long contract, but a big pay rise.
Luke who? Perfect example of a well run club. Promising left back doesn't want to stay, promising left back leaves, club get massive profit, club doesn't panic, New left back signs on loan with something to prove. Promising left back progress stalled, New left back shines, gets signed on a reasonable fee, progresses as an England international. Club happy, player happy, fans happy. Football can be so simple sometimes. We March on.
When did Luke Shaw stall? He broke his leg, prior to that he was Man Utd's best player, he'll come back very strong next year no doubt.
Completely agree, Shaw is well ahead of Bertrand imo. If he gets back to where he was he will be England's left back and a Man U starter...
He didn't have a great first season and struggled to get in the side and LVG criticised his fitness. Some of that could have been down to LVG being a nutcase, but he didn't have a brilliant start. He was doing a lot better last season, before the leg break.
Yes, Luke really tried. Took a fitness trainer away with on holiday at his own expense after LVG's comments.
Am sure he will come back very strong next year. His progress has stalled though, since he left us, be it fitness, injury of course or not being picked. He is a good player, but so is Ryan who has been very good over 2 seasons and our defence is very strong.
It's a shame that the one's who have left haven't had a chat with RB about playing or in Ryans case hardly playing for a bigger club. He's been there and done it at a big club but seems to appreciate and relish the game time he gets here.
If Tadic and Long sign the new deals on the table then the whole first team have either signed recent new contracts or are new arrivals. Should mean we won't have to sell anyone we don't want to next summer. They'll probably all play **** now.
This had crossed my mind too, but on balance I think we are likely to get more extended contracts right than wrong and the advantage of having a good core of enthusiastic players is rather compelling. The Board have got most things right over the last few years and long may it continue.
