I really hope PJ instills some backbone. I hope he gets the team to at least try, even when there's no hope in a match.
There will always be the odd bad match but over the last few seasons I feel we have just given up too easily.
It was my one hope when RK took over, that winning mentality, the playing for 95 minutes, never over 'till the fat lady and all that. But alas we probably lost more points in the last 10 minutes of a match than under any other manager. And if we went 2-0 down ,generally, it was to big a mountain to climb and we capitulated.
Under BFJ we were known as the 'comeback kings'...we reversed more scorelines than any other team I want to see that again.

PJ is developing a squad, it takes time , we all know that but what has no excuse is players not trying to do their best at all times.
Good mangers get results out of average players and they form teams that play together and think together and whilst I fully appreciate those bits take time I hope he makes them buggers run 'till they're blue in the face.

If I see effort from players and gradual improvement I don't mind not doing well initially because its means we are getting there.

Top ten table finish for me this season would suffice considering our level of investment and top six the following season.

i couldn't agree more, position, as long as it's top half, is largely irrelevant. It's improvement in the fight and the football we need to aim at this term - and then if the signings keep coming maybe auto-promotion the season after.

There were signs of some damn sexy football on show Saturday against Wolves. I hope this is a sign of things to come!

I would disagree with this. The problem we had under Keane was not lack of effort, all the players appeared to be putting in 100% all of the time. It was a lack of quality within the team and shambolic tactics. We lost more points under Keane in the last 10 minutes because of negative tactics, we were on the back foot all the time under continious pressure at some point it had to give and someone will make a mistake or the opposition will make a breakthrough, which inevitably happened on many occasions.

I agree that if we went 2-0 or even 1-0 down you'd think under Keane well we certainly aren't going to win this game now but that again was due to his negative tactics which meant we just did not have the capacity to score more than 1 or 2 goals in a match.

I am sooo happy his tenure is over and it appears in Jewell we have the right manager finally, he should have been the type of manager we appointed 2 years ago and if we did I am sure we would have been playing in the premier league last season.

I think your right with your last 2 statements, that although Jewell has heavily recruited this summer, he has needed to so we can just compete in this league. Unfortunately I believe we still need quite a few more players before we can really challenge in this league and even if we do get these in before the start of the season, I think because of the high player turnover it will take a while for us to become a team and gel together, hence why this season I think will be a step to far.

Like you say aslong as we see gradual improvement and the direction we appear to be going I would be more than happy with a top 10 finish this year. Especially if we have entertaining football again!!!

ptc - you're right that there was a HELL of a lot of effort from RK's players but whenever we went behind the heads dropped - the effort was there but belief was not. When we lost a goal the confidence drained out of us. So many games we were on top, but lost a goal, game over.
