I think she'll try to get a White Paper before Parliament on it before the next general election. It would be a smart tactical move, hitting the liberal left voters.
"Where there is discord, may we bring harmony. Where there is error, may we bring truth. Where there is doubt, may we bring faith. And where there is despair, may we bring hope." Margaret Thatcher May 4th 1979 - that turned out well
I don't think she is wolf at all, I see her more as a Miss Jones who goes thru the motions. Not crafty or clever, just a woman in need of a good **** who cannot believe she's in the position she is, without the ****..
I can't really see this making much difference to the large corporates who seek to pay as little tax as they possibly can whilst giving themselves huge pay increases and bonuses. The government seem to be squeezing the smaller companies and the ordinary working man more than chasing one or two of the large multi national corporates who are turning over billions and somehow pay small percentages of tax. They are very keen to claw back miniscule amounts from benefit fraud and the people who can least afford to pay but can't be arsed to lay down the law to the big guys moving money around to show internal losses and added expenses thus reducing their corporation tax. It's no surprise that a lot of MPs end up as non-exec directors for these companies.
The only point I was making was that May is no Thatcherite. I wonder how many board offers Cameron has had in the last week or so?
Well I quite like her although she was a **** home secretary. Poor lass couldn't have bairns either. She seems quite likable to me. I'd bang her from the back anyhow.
Ha,way man, at least look at the smile you will put on her face, or at least watch her having a good laugh.
Personally, I think once all the main parties have their house in order a general election should be called. The job of the next government is to move us out of the Euro zone. I think the people of Britain should have the right to hear the manifestos as to how they'd go about doing this.
A severe attack of common sense has broken out in The Conservative Party. The 'challenger' knowing she hadn't a hope of winning jacked it in before too many arguments caused any friction. She also showed, after a weekend of Press criticism that she wasn't up to it. So THEY move on. MEANWHILE, back in cloud cuckoo land, the labour Party continues to tear itself apart. The MP's have no confidence in The Leader. The Leader, (apparently) has the support of the activist members. He most certainly has the support of The Unions where the leader of the Party's biggest Paymaster has been scathing to the point of insulting about the MP's who oppose The Leader. Then there is the lady who wants the job. No Angel of mercy this one. I believe that when assessing a Cardinal to consider if he's up for the position of Pope, the question 'Is He Papable' is asked, (at least in the press). So can we see her as a Prime Minister? On what little I've seen of her she hasn't come across well. She's been dithering, about mounting any challenge, for a while, so not decisive. She reminds me a of female Michael Gove but I confess that it's early days and I might well have jumped to some conclusions. I'll give her time. However while the Tories have avoided an internal fight, Labour are in a hole and digging furiously. Now I hear that some Labour MP's are claiming that there should be an Election in view of the change in Prime Minister. Just like there was when Brown took over from Blair, or perhaps not!!!! Were I an advisor to the new PM I'd tell her to give them their wish.
Probably Maggie Thatcher created a lot of unease when she took over with her baggage (milk snatcher ..) but I think most agree she was a strong PM who on the whole benefited UK. But baggage of Maggie May is she's seen as a hard negotiator in Europe and as she wanted to remain I think we'll not get a good deal once article 50 is invoked - as a leaver I am uneasy but as a Sunderland fan an well used to this feeling -
Am I alone here but who feels the labour meltdown is due to unite influence ' - the unions got Ed in , Corbyn is another Unite man ....oops a political thread morphs
So once again a thread about the conservative party gets turned into a "lets knock labour" (deserving or not) I wonder if Rupert Murdoch has multiple accounts on not606
We're not part of the Euro zone mate. Labour are a mess right now, I agree we should call a general election when the parties have their houses in order, but looking at the state of Labour that could take a long time.
There can't be many threads that don't get derailed. Why would this one be any different? As for calling a general election, as some have suggested in the press, that's absolute bollocks! The tories were given a 5 year mandate and nothing has changed except for their leader, and seeing as how we don't elect PM's but individuals affiliated to parties, there's no need for a change. It was no different when Brown took over from Blair.
Back on track: I knew that she lived down here in leafy Berkshire but didn't know that she stood in the 1992 election in North West Durham http://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/features/14612264.From_North_West_Durham_to_No_10/ Her brief brush with North West Durham did stand her in good stead because five years later, despite Tony Blair’s landslide, Mrs May became the MP for Maidenhead. She quickly moved onto the bedraggled party’s front benches, and in 2002, became party chairman. At conference that year, she told the Tory faithful in a jaw-dropping moment: “You know what people call us? The nasty party.” Despite nearly 20 years on the front benches, that “nasty party” quote is one of two things most people remember about her. The other, of course, is that she has a penchant for elaborate leopard skin print heels. This must indicate that she has been a competent Home Secretary for the last six years. She is the longest serving in that graveyard role for 60 years and yet has hardly been in the headlines for 60 minutes, despite presiding over a failure to contain immigration and Britain’s attempts to tackle Islamic extremism. Her in-tray has also included such hot topics as police reform, riots, child abuse scandals and the passport fiasco. Worth clicking the link to see a copy of her CV from 1992
After her shambolic reign as Home Secretary making her Prime Minister is akin to making Kate McCann the new Supernanny. I fear for this country.
Funnily enough, she's probably best placed to deal with several key issues of Brexit, such as immigration, internal and international security, that will need to be renegotiated post-Brexit and also she may start to prioritise the issue with a massively under funded police force, that she should know is awash with desk-jockeys, analysts, pen pushing HR ****e and 'sick note Bobbies'.
