That Stretch Armstrong jr next to him? Hope he's signing too, we could do with another Crouch.

Because of that missed sitter we were shown I now have the concern that in Janssen Spurs MIGHT be signing another Darren Bent. Yes, he DID score two goals in that match but that was Bent all over wasn't it? Missing sitters. I will be watching Janssen very closely.

    :D

Just remixing your post slightly to reflect my feelings on the matter. If we had those two mid last season we may well be champions now, but with all teams strengthening, both in their management and in squad, we will need more to compete to the levels we did last season again, especially if we wish to compete in the champions league in any significant manor as well as remain in the top three.

This is spot on. We need better players and more of them. As soon as the management of the club stop pursuing this aim then we're sunk. We were good last season but we won nothing and we won't without more quality additions. Now is the time to be brave, not to repeat 2010's business.

If we can buy Icardi and Goetze, then we should do it. I think we're still 3 really good players light. I would expect a Mousa type (someone who can defend but is the start of moving the ball forward - CK's deep-lying midfield playmaker) a pacy wide man and a third striker (again someone with explosive pace).

I expect departures as well. I think Chadli is gone along with Fazio, Carroll, Pritchard (sob! I still think he'll make it somewhere), one of Mason or Bentaleb and probably Yedlin (although I'd be prepared to contemplate Trippier as I think Yedlin can be the new Kyle Walker and the better all-round player).

I've also got a feeling that we just might be willing to trade Eriksen or Lamela with a foreign team, if circumstances dictate. They haven't signed new deals and have 2 years on their current ones. At which point, it's make your mind up time boys. Sign or leave. We can't let players run down their contracts. We won't sell to any PL club and with Roma and Inter desperate to get their hands on those players and with us possibly interested in Icardi and maybe Pjanic, who knows? Just a feeling. Expect new contracts to be announced later today.

Yeah completely agree about Harry, good few times last season where he went missing or his touch in front of goal was woeful so I too really hope Janssen is the guy that'll not only push him but also partner him at times and even maybe keep him out the side for some games, we need that sort of competition up front, we haven't had it since the days of Berba, Keane, Defoe and Bent. He certainly looks the part but then so did Soldado. The one thing I will say is that from memory, most Dutch strikers that have left the Eredivisie in recent years have generally been quite successful, van Nistlerooy, van Persie and Huntelaar being the main three, so if Janssen follows in their footsteps then happy days! It's usually been the non-Dutch ones from the Eredivisie with a few exceptions that have generally been poor (Kezman, Alves and Finnbogason).

I must admit I'm pretty happy with the AM's, Alli will hopefully only improve on an incredible debut season, Eriksen racked up assists for fun last year despite blowing hot and cold at times and Lamela had his best season to date. Son and N'Jie will both have pre-seasons with us this time around and hopefully Chadli & Pritch can remain injury-free, while young Josh should also look for more game time. Of course IF Gotze can be added to that then wonderful as that's the sort of player who really is a class above, we've been linked to guys like Schurrle, Wijnaldum and now Tello but none of them are upgrades on what we have in the starting XI in my opinion, they'd add nicely to the squad but I'd rather add higher calibre players in those roles. Besides I have a feeling that Marcus Edwards could be given opportunities in the near future so I don't want squad calibre players blocking his chances, really excited to see him in action, especially now rumours are we've finally agreed a two-year pre-contract with him.

Apparently, it's tomorrow (Reuters). Hmmm, could it be we're doing a double deal? Or are we just ****ing around giving Alkmaar time to change their price or Chelsea to bid 3 times what we're offering?

Gotze!!! Haha I'll keep dreaming on that.

IF Alkmaar were to change price again then they can go **** themselves, already gotten an extra £5m-£6m on what they initially asked us for. As for Chelsea, well Chelsea can just sod off and die.

This first point is one that I felt very passionately about this time a year ago, and regularly locked horns with Powerspurs over it. A year down the line, and I've moderated my views significantly. Ultimately, as has been discussed at length on here, our most successful signings by far have been players signed in the 'budget range' of £5-12m. Toby, Kev, Alli, Dier, Davies, Eriksen, Vertonghen, Hugo, Parker, VDV, Sandro, Walker, Bale, Kaboul, Berbatov, BAE all cost less than £12m and would all probably feature on a list of top-50 PL players for THFC. The only exception to this rule that I can think of over the past decade is Luka Modric who cost just over £16m. Maybe things will change with the offer of CL in that we have greater leverage to bring in the players we want without getting fleeced but the counter-argument to this is that we still cannot come close to competing financially with the CL big guns and therefore won't be able to offer the wages needed to tempt the players we want. Players like Icardi and Gotze would come in and automatically become our highest earners before even kicking a ball. Whispers at the time were that this was a central ingredient of 'Kaboul-gate', with Kane and other youngsters reportedly furious at how much Adebayor was earning for doing F all.

I'm not saying it can't work, I'm just highlighting the reality that almost every single high-profile, big-money signing we've attempted in the past decade has turned out to be a monumental flop. And yes, despite being a massive fan of his and viewing him as integral to Poch's system, I'd include Lamela in that statement as when all is said and done, it's been 3 years and he still isn't worth what we paid for him.

The PL is an unforgiving league, played at a pace more reckless than anything these players have experienced, with permanently crap weather, no winter break, and people like Charlie Adam paid to keep the NHS busy. We need look no further than our closest rivals to see how many hundreds of millions have been squandered on 'big name' players who would probably be better off in Italy or Spain. What I love about Lamela is that his natural skill set lends itself perfectly to the Italian way of playing and abysmally to the PL, but he has dug deep and worked his socks off to become a completely different player to the one he was at Roma. Unlike United, City or Chelsea, we cannot afford another Soldado or Paulinho. It makes me laugh how United are again throwing money around for fun when they have enough deadwood to fill the Cotswolds still to clear...but they don't give a toss about that, because they don't have to.

Even Einstein might be flummoxed by the strange workings of time in the Tottenham transfer world, where flights from the Netherlands to London take two days and medicals may or may not be completed in a week.

Knowing Levy he booked him on a budget airline flying via Mogadishu.

This was Janssen entering the training ground yesterday, the same Tweeter then said they saw him leave a few hours later (they must have an interesting life! <laugh>).

This has got nothing to do with transfer gossip and actual signings! But I totally disagree with David Gold:

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/36766990

"England manager: Sam Allardyce a good choice, says David Gold"

A manager who was manager of Sunderland last season, they were in a relegation dogfight for most of it? No thanks.

I think Juventus might be annoyed by that, given they signed him last month.

What would he have said a couple of seasons ago when Allardyce was Wet Spam manager? Would he have made some arsey comment like he did when Bilic's name was being bandied about?

Great signing. Nice and early too instead of starting the season needing a striker.

Well done to Poch and his team.

No desperate deadline day move for a striker now too so good news all around.

I don't really know the player but from what I have read, it sound like he has great potential. Definitely worth a punt.
