They can't ship anyone out. Might well take Klopp the 6year contract just to shift the dead wood!

Well, no doubt we'll get to see him in the PL, as he'll be attracted to the megabucks. Unless he wants to shortcut the whole shebang and go straight to China without passing GO or collecting the paltry £200 [Cheers, it took a while to make].

The best analysis of the Mane fee I heard is that on his day, he is a £100 million player and he has those days around 36% of the time, so the fee is about right

That's spot on! And I think replacing him with a similar match winner is prefable to playing it safe. Puel did wonders for mercurial Ben Arfa - what if he can do the same for a Boufal, Markovic, Niang, Ziyech or Depay type. Our system can accommodate one such player.

Not sure I've ever seen mane play as £100m player. When he plays well he is quality but the best/most valuable player in the world... not so sure.

Also, it's interesting to see West Ham offering £26m for Bacca. Although relatively similar in stature and quality, West Ham are the complete opposite in terms of club culture and policy.

We would never spend that much money on a player, especially at 29 years of age! A lot of people complain about how we spend and recruit but I'd much rather do it this way rather than the way West Ham do.

If there were no injury concerns over Austin and Rodriguez I wouldn't want a another striker. Big risk IMO.

This is what makes me giggle. An "attacking" RB when we're saying a stronger defensive FB. I do think the club think very hard about what they ask to be put out there. Cedric just played the Euro Finals like a right winger and two days later we announce we are after an attacking RB.. <laugh>

If Long, J Rod and Austin stay 100% fit for the whole season then I'd say we'd be okay. However with their injury records and adding Europa League games into the mix I think we definitely need another striker before the window closes.

Same with the Amavi link though, we may be looking at playing back 3 with wingbacks...

I think you have to treat JRod as a bonus player at this point. He was healthy enough to play pre-season games last season but then had problems (again) and barely played for us for the entire season. Even if he somehow manages to put a full season in for us, it's unlikely that he will be as effective for us as he was prior to his injury. If we don't get in another striker or goal scoring midfielder before the end of the window, I'll be very concerned.

The club can feed the Echo what the hell they like. They could just as easily be trolling us as giving accurate info. "Let's tell them we're not signing a striker, then when we announce Lewandowski they'll absolutely ****ing love us".

Stranger things...(well not Lewandowski, obviously, but taking that approach).

Going into a season with 3 strikers ,2 of which are injury prone is pretty much suicide, when you're in Europe as well.

Agree - would prefer us to consider Gallagher as someone we will loan out at the end of August IF JRod, Austin, Long and summer signing are all fit. Keep him around as depth if not.

Certainly not rely on him playing a full part in first team duties should injuries hit.

I agree with the seeing Jay being a bonus. I am not sure about "unlikely" he'll be the same player though, as he could be. Time will tell. The three strikers we have now, Jay, Austin and Long, would suggest to me that we will sign another unless people in the club really believe that Sam Gallagher will step up this season.

I would want another striker, but hey I am just a fan and will take a look at the end of the window.
