When I posted my message I was out the door within seconds. So to answer your question - anything really. Haven't seen anything for years. Best move I made was to keep a pair of in-ear defenders to save the tinnitus going off. We could get really close to the action and let the military jets rip up the sky. A pair of the latest French jets went remarkably close to the sea level sound barrier at 1200 kph [745mph/Mach 0.972]. You could see the shock waves coming off the fuselage. Quite impressive. The new Lightning II gave an impressive copy of the old Harrier display, twirling and spinning in the hover. The F.22 Raptor showed how nimble it is with its vectored exhaust nozzles, and the Euro Typhoon was its compact highly effective and manoeuvrable self. A couple of updated F16s tore up the sky. I've always said that aircraft was a good 'un. One huge surprise was the Airbus A400 Transport. Such agility from a big aircraft which looks as if all it can do is lumber about. At one moment it was hanging in the air practically stationary. Here's a video from the plane giving a glimpse of what it is capable of [not from today]:
I use this foolproof rule. Big thing with wings = plane. Other thing with spinning bit(s) = helicopter. Small pink thing with a big sail = parachutist.
Indeed, and a fine rule that is too. But there was a time when I could identify aircraft at a glance and I've lost it.
Watching that new prog on BBC4 about trainspotting, it is truly dreadful, the trains are fine but the verbal coverage is dross.
Well I just had a day which started with the next festival we were meant to be playing being cancelled, followed by the adult equivalent of a playground bully pulling his usual trick of phoning me and calling me all the choice expletives you could think of over something utterly trivial and nothing to do with reality. Sadly I have to put up with it for the time being with him though. Never mind, Fable just wrote an absolute belter of a track so they can all go and **** themselves!
A tad close! Do you think he'd strayed somewhere he shouldn't have and someone was sent up to check him out? Always thought the waggle of wings in flight to another plane meant "follow me" .....
Looking at what he did next, I think following him in that small prop plane could have lead to some interesting phrases in the cockpit!
Well I wasn't thinking he was going to roll over and had down like the fighter, but, you're right, it would have made for an interesting commentary!!
More golfers pulling out of the Olympics because of zika virus...personal decision admittedly, but strange the golfers are more worried than anyone else. Louis Smith summed it up....the Olympics is the pinnacle for most sportsmen, but there isn't a 500K prize at the end.
Yeah, golf at the Olympics is very much a 'so what' in their roster unfortunately (not completely dissimilar to football).
I wouldn't point the finger at anyone who has decided to pull out of the upcoming Olympics. The virus is a bit worrying, but the countries infrastructure seems a far bigger concern. Saying that, Rory sounded a bit of a tit when they pulled up the quote from last month.
S So what makes tennis players so different? Murray's just won almost £1.9 million at Wimbledon but he's raring to go to the Olympics? Admittedly it's been an Olympic sport longer but surely there are just as many huge annual tournaments in tennis as there are in golf. Why the different attitudes?
Just a prestige thing I guess. Olympics is mostly a track and field event, that's it's "gold riband" and it's history. The other events are bolt-one to broaden the appeal.
