That this thread has gotten to 5 pages is an appalling lack of moderation on this board.

**** this thread off and ban Hatem, mild abuse thrown around is one thing, but a thread singling me out is outright bullying.

I've actually been to a number of games, I watched more than a third of our games in the 13/14 season in the flesh.

Not even sure why you are bringing that discussion up again when at the time I pointed out I was suggesting that even when playing poorly for us he was good for Ireland, not that he was always poor for us.

West 'Ull, yes. West Yorkshire, no.
With the 'h' after the 'W'? Maybe a degree of culture has diffused in that direction?

I was born and lived in Hull (within the boundary) for 23 years and pronounce it White-fryer-gate. Why wouldn't one?

A better test is surely how to pronounce Boyes.

As a kid growing up there I called it White-frig-ate. Lived in Hull for the first 21 years of my life.

Not that posh then. i would rank them as follows, worst first.

    Thorpe's
    Dane's
    Court's
    Shaw's

The Courts were nearly Cottingham and the Shaw's nearest to ghost est. so posh no one would live there when it was first built.

I'd say it's where you're from. If my mum and dad were on holiday in Spain when I was born but I was raised in Vancouver, I'd say i was from Vancouver.

I say I am from Hull to people from outside of Hull/E Yorks, but say I am from Cottingham when speaking to people from Hull/E Yorks.

Spain and Vancouver is hardly a similar example!

It is interesting that a lot claim to be from Hull when they're not, but when any proposals for Greater Hull are put forward they're vehemently against it*. You cant have it both ways and they should say they're from East Yorkshire.

    * This is a general point, I dont mean you.

Do boys pronounce it different to girls?

I tried it as I consider a boy would. I went for one aged around 11, imagine Neville Ramsbottom in the first Harry Potter film but from Hull. Any road it still came out as Boyziz only a little higher pitched.
