You been on the beers tonight? If there one thing Ronaldo is, it's a big game player and guy would want to be scoring the winning goal in this game even if it meant poaching it on the line from someone else.
He tried to come back on twice FFS, why would he go off and give his team less chance of winning if he was fine to carry on.
IIRC it was Hal Robson that played up front against England until he went off then Bale went up top. That was more down to a lack of real options than anything though.
I know it wasn't a pop but Bale rarely plays up top for us, he has done a few times when we haven't had Kanu fit but mostly he gets a free role to do as he pleases which suits him and gets the most out of him.
