I think we know what is going on though. He wants a 4 year contract on the same terms he is now. They want him to take a pay cut (a very uncommon occurence in football) and accept a 3 year deal. He refused this and so they have withdrawn the contract offer altogether. This has upset him and this coupled with the sale of other key players (and contract disputes) has created an atmosphere of ill feeling and low morale. He and others have then returned the unprofessionalism by using twitter to air there views. There both in the wrong but I believe this is mainly down to how the club want to cut costs. They want to sell off high earners, and either replace them with young players from the youth squad or cheaper options. Common sense approach to reducing costs to be fair to them but they seem unwilling for this to be common knowledge. So they say one thing and do another.

    that wasn't the journal

I've read a few things and quotes from his agent and joey was angry he wasn't taking the dead balls is he ****ing real or what as Cabaye didn't go to the USA then it's understandable Pardew would want to see what he's about smacks of spitting the dummy out and being a child

not from the "arse licking" journal
nice comments with the season only 2 wks away they need to shut the **** up and piss off

I wrote it wrong, I was meant to say 'You are all being hypocritical.

In what way? It wasn't too long ago you were all saying you wanted Barton to stay at the club, and that it would break team spirit etc. 'Freddd' said he was at the match and he saw no row as reported, so the story you are all gasping at is probably complete bullshit.

Now you are all saying thank **** he is going. Think about it, this is football. If he is good enough to play football, just tell him to shut the **** up and get on with it, not release him on a free!

Do you know the meaning of hypocritical? It's not necessarily hypocritical to change your mind over a situation which itself has changed.

The only thing that has changed is that he has been told to go! These (arguing) are only rumours and people here have said they didn't see the warm-up row!
Becasue he is going, you are all contridicting your opinion and now saying 'he is a disruptive element to the dressing room'. Not too long ago, you were claiming that the same 'disruptive element' was the backbone of your team!

I think you need to start taking more interest in matters concerning Bolton and start posting on the Bolton board Bolton4Europe and not coming on here nit picking with regular Toon supporters and posters.

what has changed is more facts have been released on the situation so in accordance peoples opinions change it's not hypercritical

his agent has come out with some of these facts so if they are rumours or untruths then he needs to sack his lying agent but somehow i don't think his agent was lying

I still don't want him to go just to be clear BFE. And a number of others don't either. Its a situation that has split fans right down the middle. On one hand you have the board acting unprofessionally towards the players, and on the other you have Barton (and lets not forget several others who have not been sacked) being unprofessional in their response to the clubs behaviour. This is understandable for me, it isn't for others who believe regardless the club is right as the employer.

You said one thing for me which seems to be forgotten in these situations when discussing employer/employee relations. Football is a completely different business to that which we all work in, it's unique. As is the contractual situations with players because of the money involved and other aspects. Trying to compare it with our own employment is a really bad fit for me, and a poor basis for a standpoint.

Slagging off board repeatedly = disruptive, we were never claiming that he was the backbone of the team because of the slagging off. Even if that was the case it would be a case of contradicting ourselves, not of being hypocritical.

from what I've heard there is fair bit of backing from team mates - and I wouldn't trust pardew or Ashley as far as I could throw them - still, at least there are only 2 relegation places to avoid now...

from what I can see this all boiled down to power - pardew and Ashley trying to get back the dressing room after making a balls up thus summer...joey is the most vocal and the most easy to set up as the villain - and look at you lot eating it up...

can't see these newbies of yours taking too well to Sunderland away on a Monday night...not compared to the class of 2010-2011 - which included Carroll, barton and Nolan...

    can't wait for barton's autobiography

When he was denied a contract and offered a smaller one, most of you were like 'He should get a new contract.'

When he started his Twitter rage, most of you were like 'He should get a new contract'

Now he is being released from the club, most of you are like ' He should not get a new contract'

If you disagree with the above sentences, I'm quite happy to find some threads where you (Newcastle fans) have voiced this opinion.

Keep this up and you'll be lucky if your posts stay up long enough for you to read them. Post on the Bolton board where you can say what you want.

He deserved a new contract until he resorted to twitter to cause trouble (and I was against these antics from the start), and believe it or not but Newcastle fans don't all have the exact same opinion at all times. Take your ignorance back to Bolton.

so when more facts are released on issues you stick with your original thoughts the fact that he behaved in a disruptive manner during a friendly and spat his dummy out hasn't helped his cause and has shown him in a different light i.e. disruptive to team moral
