But that £5 million spend should have come from Eder and Palo's transfers which combined at around 8-9 million, which means our club is still in net terms £2 million up. For us to improve, the cash from Jonjo, Eder and Palo should go straight into the transfer kitty.
Kanu is a decent 3rd choice like Eder/Emnes, Ayew is a winger/CAM and Fer is a CM and that could be our strike force? If that's the case, Guido will be gone by January because we'll be stuffed.
IMO , if Ayew stays , you will never see him play wing again .If this turns out to be true , Ayew will be our #1 striker Kanu or whoever else comes in will be #2 and Fer will be only in emergency . Middle midfielders : Considering Siggy is automatic , that leaves Fer , Ki , Cork and Britton vying for the last 2 spots .....Allen is not necessary . Naughton will get a proper try at RB with Guidolin IMO , Kingsley and Taylor will fight for LB , Williams, Fernandez , Amat and Van Der Hoorn is plenty at CB . Montero and Barrow ( new contract ) is good for either wing with Routledge as cover for either side ..... Good to go , only wants and no needs as the window lessens .
He is necessary but we've spent £4 million on a championship player who the QPR fans were over the moon we signed, wasted money imo. Leon is a year older, Ki is a shadow of himself 2 years ago and won't be back for a while as he's doing his military service. Jonjo and Grimes leaving in the past 12 months leaves us short in midfield. Fer for me, is a decent squad player, Joe, would improve the starting 11 instantly. Joe has shown what he's capable of at the highest level, and our club bottled it for the sake of an extra £2 million. We have also sold 2 strikers, with hopefully Gomis on his way out soon, and you want us to go into a season with Kanu and Fer, bloody Fer as our striking back up choices?
Ayew is not a striker roof....how many times can a person be told before it sinks in...He has been drafted into that position because there was nobody else. Ayew is nowhere near a good enough striker and his preferred position is playing behind the striker and that is his best position...We don't just need one striker we need two and if we cant pay £20m + each for them then we don't deserve to be in the premiership, Its a known fact that the striker who is good enough will be the most expensive buy a club will make and not these cheapo's from the lower leagues who most end up crap and a waste of money.........What club goes on tour without any strikers.....Its a joke...
Well we don't know what the fee was for Fer, but I don't think it was £4m, likely half that. The club hasn't given what they paid. And I don't see how it's wasted money, he did okay for us in the games played, he is an option for us. We don't have a shortage in midfield imo, and bringing in Allen is not going to happen as he's to expensive for the position, you are speculating on that we would have signed him for an extra £2m, you simply don't know that, and as I have said previously would you have been saying to pay a further £2m if £10m was rejected? We have to face reality here, we will not be spending 10s of millions on a player no matter how good he is, we won't be spending more than £10m on a player this window. And you know what? We will be mid table come the next window, and mid table come next May. As for selling 2 strikers, how many goals did they get for us?
How are we going to be mid table when we have no strikers at present? Yes, I'm happy we sold them, but they were no good. Why? Because they were cheap. A quality striker, who will get 12-15 league goals costs money. We better start spending some, because we need significant quality up front next season. Fer is a decent squad player, but he in no way improves the starting 11. Somebody like Joe Allen, would have. If these new owners were serious about investing in our club and are not over here to steal every penny out of the club, like 99% of Americans, why not spend some money and buy a Joe Alken or a Bony? Bringing Bony back for example, is more important than increasing the stadium capacity atm.
Absolutely. If we cant afford to spend £20m+ for a striker then we deserve another rubbish season.....£40m for two quality strikers is cheap when you see what a really good striker goes for. Look at one of our rivals paying £35m for one striker and that tells everyone they have ambition to do well. We indicate relegation fodder with no strikers.....
So what you are saying then is that the 6 clubs that landed above us with no players who scored 15 goals last season has no quality players upfront? The reality is that spending £20m or more on a striker will not guarantee us 15 goals, there is a whole list of players who have failed to achieve that. The new owners haven't taken over yet, and until they do we won't get huge sums of money spent by the club now, so that means probably the end of next month. But you know my thinking on this so called investment by them. And I don't know why you are fixated by Allen & Bony, they are ex players of ours yes, but there is a whole world of players out there that could do the job for us, the club has scouted many. I don't think they are interested in either now due to the price and wage demands.
So it's no longer £30m to be spent in this window but about £50m? Really Dai you are delusional, the club cannot afford to spend that kind of money, we are not Chelsea for gawds sake!
I wanted Joe back because he's imo the natural long term replacement for Leon and he knows the demands etc of the PL. I also wanted Bony back not for his goals alone but because his ability to improve our defensive ability at set pieces and because he's already had a very good partnership with Gylfi. New players will need time to settle into the club, league, climate and form an understanding with our players. Bony and Joe would solve these issue within a couple of weeks. That's why I'm pissed we haven't signed them.
But the problem is that we are not the same team as when they both left, and they are not the same players, particularly Bony who has been injured for a lot of the season, or on the bench. You are reckoning that players can't fit in if they haven't played here before, really that's not based on anything factual, players come in and do the job they are paid to
We cant afford £50m ......Why not?....other teams have spent more than that......If we cant afford to be here i hope we go down where the club should be with that sort of mentality....6 seasons we have been here i cant see a 7th without proper strikers.
Perhaps business is not your thing? Go and have a look at the club accounts, they are available on company house beta for free! And explain to me what proper strikers are? Do they start at £20m in your books?
Exactly, we could pay £20m for each player like what Dai says, then they take to long to fit in, then they are deemed expensive flops, and we'd have two of them. Money doesn't mean success, I would have thought Newcastle would highlight that, what did they spend last season? Quick search on wiki and it was over £80m, how did that pan out?
So nobody in the premiership can run a business then And i have got a very successful business thank you very much...
