I did think about starting a new Europa League 2016/17 thread, seeing as we'll be in it for more than 5 minutes this time. Also, several teams have played their first rounds. Midtjylland, as you point out. Hearts and Aberdeen, etc... Anyway, I was going to do it... but I forgot.
Probably get better involvement if one is started once qualification is complete and we start to get excited about the draw!
SHORTEST MANAGERIAL STINT? Marcelo Bielsa has resigned as Lazio manager, just TWO days after taking the job. "We note with amazement the resignation of Marcelo Bielsa in clear violation of the commitments and agreements signed last week and filed with the Italian Football Federation," the Serie A club said in a statement. There have been rumours that the former Marseille boss has been approached to take over Argentina. (Sky)
I think the shortest professional football managerial stint was about 10 or 30 minutes. Leroy Rosenior at Torquay, IIRC. As for Bielsa, I'd love him to be England manager.
I remember years ago someone said that football would never take off in America and it was only played by kids. I replied then that anything played by kids eventually goes mainstream as those kids grow up....you don't play a game from childhood without maintaining interest. And America is so big that it can support many sports.
Second most popular sport in USA. To which some wag wrote: Is gun shooting first.? If it wasn't so tragic it would be funny.
