Sounds about right - try a taste of the dark then throw it away. It also allows a nice but of casual racism into the show - which is always good for family viewing...

The Bahamas has issued a warning out to its young black males advising them against visiting the USA.

    Shameage.

Those of you who know me know that I ain't no spring chicken. I grew up in a London that was very segregated. I don't think there were any black kids at my primary school, and maybe one at my grammar school. So, I never really had the chance to mix, and subsequently grew up with many of the stereotypical impressions of other races that come with that kind of childhood.

Some of you will also know, that in my younger days, I was a pro musician - mostly session work. This became the first time in my young life that I had to interact with black people. I soon discovered that not only were some of these guys great musicians, some of them were really great guys too. Ok, some were assholes, but that applies to all creeds.

Long story short, ever since then I learnt that to judge somebody by the colour of their skin is as stupid as judging them by the colour of their hair, or their eyes.

And bollocks, frankly. The US is a pretty hospitable place, at least New York certainly is.

As for the cops (who in many cities are about 40-50% black or latino), they're policing an armed society. Who wouldn't be jumpy doing that?

America, I'm pretty sure, has no more racists, no more racist cops, no more kids in gangs and no more random nutters than any other country. It just has a lot more guns.

    Sarcastic about NYC being hospitable?

I agree with the lack of gun control. But that is on Govt & Bureaucrats to deter & stop proliferation.
    NRA lobbying is sad.

US cops have one of the toughest jobs in the world. Which explains to some extent about their hyper aggression.

Have you ever been to NYC ? It is one of the friendliest cities in the world. True that in the 70's and 80's it might have been a different story, but today it is safe, clean, hospitable and a very friendly place to visit and work.

I think the grievance is the disparity in their reaction to whites as opposed to blacks in any given situation. Why are blacks feeling so much at risk of being victimised by the police rather than the collective American civilian population as a whole, if it was simply about police being jumpy?

You mean the Horseshoe in Jersey ? I lived in Park Slope, Brooklyn. Nice neighbourhood, on the whole. Obviously any big city has its sketchy areas, and when you live in the city, you keep your city head on. But New York as I found it was always very friendly.

I think NYC is best summed up by its accurate portrayal in Death Wish :bandit:

I could tell you a few scary stories about Finsbury Park or Tottenham. Still love London though. And New York.

Guns are a massive problem across the US. But New York I think is officially the safest large city in the US these days in terms of crime.
