I had an interest in him before Newcastle signed him, I know he can score, but I often feel he lacks steel. In my humble opinion, I still reckon we need another CM with goal threat, style and steel for when Dembele is out and Alli is in other positions. Sissoko perhaps?

I just remember the horror show when we went all limp in the middle because both Dembele and Alli were out.

Gotze is a conundrum. Far, far bigger names have come off the rails in the faster, more physical environment of the PL. He certainly isn't 'world class' just yet and the risk in signing a name as big as his is that he would automatically expect to displace one of the settled '3' - Eriksen or Alli - and there is no guarantee he would do any better than them.

With regards to the CM position, I'd like someone who offers something completely different to Dembele or Alli as when they play there, both fit nicely into the 'gung-ho' end of our tempo spectrum but nowhere else. I think the hope bordering on desperation you sometimes see on this forum for Tommy to succeed reflects the underlying reality that he is the only CM currently at the club who offers something completely different. Teams are going to set up even more defensively against us next season - home and away - and the ability to bring on a player who plays the tempo like a guitar is invaluable when the difference between scraping a win and a frustrating draw is often the difference between a title challenge and an Arsenal. I don't see any of Mousa, Alli, Nabs or Mason as that player - they are all box to box midfielders with subtly different skill sets. The problem is that players like Modric are one in a million and command enormous transfer fees. I think @humanbeingincroydon is the best person to ask about potential unheralded stars.

As for Wijnaldum, I can't say I saw much of Newcastle last season. Indeed, two of their games were watched with my hands over my face and a block of cork clamped between my teeth. But from what I have seen, he is too similar to Alli, and if we're interested in signing competition for our young superstar, I'd prefer Youri Tielemans every day of the week.

He's being linked with all of the top clubs and I'll be surprised if he doesn't move in this window.
Time to add another Belgian to the mix?

He's been top of my summer wish list ever since he was first linked with us back in March as he can add so much to the team: as well as being a like-for-like with Dembele for his style of dribbling, he can ping the ball about from deep to create chances and add urgency going forward, he's got dead ball delivery (although given Spurs is a club where dead ball specialists go to die, that might not be as much of a positive as you'd think...), and he's got a veteran's mentality despite being 19 so that would appeal to Poch.

Your last point is something that I think has been missed quite often.
We've not only signed a number of youngsters in recent years, but they've generally played a lot for their age, too.
    Eriksen's 24 and he's already played 350 senior games, while Alli's already chalked up nearly 150 and he's 20.

Finding players with youth, quality, potential and experience is tough going, though.
That's especially true when we're trying to save money for the stadium.
Tielemans might end up costing too much, due to the interest from the usual suspects.

Dutch paper De Telegraaf are claiming that Janssen has been spotted at the airport with his agents.
He's flying to London today to do his medical and complete the deal, apparently.
He'll then be drafted into the squad for the friendlies in Australia.

I thought he'd been 'spotted' flying out on Friday? There was a picture of him doing the rounds leaving the AZ training ground with a suitcase so unless it was his turn to wash the kits, something doesn't add up...

Tottenham transfer dealings are as nerve wracking as a penalty shoot out. You just kind of guess a direction and hope for the best.

Marcus Edwards is said to have signed a 2 year contract (@TottenhamAcademy). Let's hope it's true and he can become the player his talent suggests is possible. Good luck son! COYS!

The Gotze rumours are very exciting. Despite being a player that's in a position in which I don't feel we need much strengthening in due to the quality of Alli, Eriksen and Lamela, Gotze is one of those players who, when available and potentially interested, we must do all we can to grab his signature. Not only will he add immesne quality to an already young and exciting squad but it also shows a signal of intent from the club to push for such a marquee signing. This is a player who's won the world cup, 5 Bundesliga titles and numerous DFB Pokals between two different clubs, all at the age of 24. He's one of the best players in European football and is a player who 99% of clubs in the world would have in a heartbeat. He somewhat reminds me of a van der Vaart type signing, albeit a tad more expensive but it's something I think we should definitely do all we can to try and convince that Spurs is the place for him.

I won't get my hopes up too much as I wouldn't be surprised if Chelsea came in and done their regular "snap up the competition" signing but the signs and supposed sources of Gotze wanting a move to WHL is pleasing to say the least.

If you look carefully at the dark blue car in the background, you'll see John Terry holding a burlap sack.

Suggestions from Spain (Calcio Mercato) that we are in discussions with Cristian Tello's agent. This looks much more like something that actually might happen. He's not wanted at Barca, would be cheap in current terms and he knows Mauricio Pochettino from his time with Espanyol. He would bring pace, width and a goal threat and is looking for a home and someone to believe in him again. I feel a trip to the bookies coming on.

I think so mate yeah, Mousa being out for the first four games will be a blow but with Wanyama in, it'll create a brick wall alongside Dier for any opposition sides to break down and with the impending arrival of Janssen, I think we've covered the two areas where we massively lacked depth in last season. If those two were our only bits of business this window then I'd be happy, though I think at least one more will come in with maybe some young arrivals to push for places in the future.

It's nice to look at a Spurs squad and think there's no weak spot/ player in our side. Take for instance the current situation with Jan, if any other side in the Prem lost one of their key CB's for a couple of months there'd be panic and potentially the need for them to buy a new player to cover adequately in their absence, we're blessed in knowing that Big Kev is barely a downgrade on Jan such was his displays last season, he may even take Jan's spot on a permanent basis if he impresses again. The same can be said for so many other positions, Rose and Walker are clearly the number one fullbacks but Davies and Tripps are both very accomplished and Prem-proven. Despite injury-hit campaigns both Mason and Bentaleb (and Carroll if he's kept) are also good players and can no doubt offer to the side should we be missing the likes of Mousa/ Dier/ Wanyama. The supporting trio have competition from Chadli, Son, N'Jie, Onomah and Pritch if he stays while Kane will also have the challenge of Janssen. If Hugo is out for a spell then Vorm is a very good keeper to fall back on, I don't think you'd find many better back up keepers that are of higher quality than Vorm in the Prem, only Chelsea with Begovic and possibly Utd with Romero have better strength in the keeper positions in my opinion.

So yeah, I'm really looking forward to the season, the arrivals of Jose, Pep and Conte along with the millions they'll likely spend doesn't bother me, our first XI along with strong squad options is a match for anyone and I think with Poch in charge, we're only going to get better.

    Cheers for that SOS.

I'm hoping Janssen can provide a real threat to Kane. I think he could have done with being dropped a few times last season. That's the bit that concerns me...that he is a serious downgrade, what I have heard though suggests he is made of the kind of stuff Poch looks for. Apart from that I think it's a bit of fine touch ups to a solid squad.

We need a creative mid to threaten Eriksen seriously. For me he coasts in some games, not all but some. However we can't be soft and loyal..someone he knows and more importantly 'we' know, will bring a serious threat to the match. So far I don't have that confidence with most of our attacking mids.
