Not sure it was ever a case of 'finally getting rid of Pelle ' was it? He's been a great buy for the club.

Dost is younger, cheaper and very similar so makes sense on that level.

For me it was, Pelle scored goals and was effective, but the style of play was so much better when he wasn't playing. I'd be disappointed to sign someone who is a similar target man type as I don't enjoy the football as much as playing with a pacy front line.

I agree with both of you!! :)

I thought we were better without Pelle (most of the time) but he was definitely a success.

We need to be able to change it up if things aren't going right. If a fast front man doesn't work, we are screwed atm.

Yeah that's fine, and with Koeman gone hopefully if we do sign a target man he will be more of a plan B rather than A.

Good point, well made. Hadn't considered that. Variation is important.

Different options are good, but Dost isn't a terribly well-rounded player from what I've seen. Really limited technically, with poor touch and really lousy passing. He's a one-touch scorer who can win headers and finish in the six yard box, which has merit, but other than his height, I don't know that he brings any qualities that Austin does not, and he comes with the same drawbacks.

Somewhat, yeah. Never really liked him going back to when he was in Holland and we were supposedly interested. Pelle was at least capable of working himself a shot, though...Dost needs to be spoon-fed, or he's utterly useless.

Never said if I thought Bas Dost was good or not. I was just saying we need options.

We are doing smart business, He is being brought in at a good price, to be an option, Not a key player. IF he wins us points then it wil be justified, If he doesn't then we haven't spent to much! Win win really.

Yeah, just adding my feelings on that particular option. With Austin, we have a finisher...when he can stay healthy. With Long, we have movement and chance creation...when he can find the goal. In Jay we have similar...if he can stay healthy. A battering ram makes a bit of sense as a final option, but we'd really need to build toward working for him, and given his inability to stay healthy and long, Pelle-esque stretches of fecklessness, it feels like there out to be better options available.

Want a big striker who is dominant in the air? Sebastien Haller would probably be just as cheap or cheaper, and while he has many of the same weaknesses (and I wouldn't be over the moon as a result) he's much less injury-prone, and young enough to have a decent chance to improve.

Mourinho unsurprisingly selling Mata - price is likely £20m - Money bags Everton are the early favourites

Some of the so called ITK on twitter have us down for signing Jeremy Pied on a free transfer , whilst signing free's can be good value he is also being touted as a squad player. I hope we dont sign too many squad players or wel end up with players like Martina who block the pathway for the youngsters

I don't know enough about Dost to comment on him. I do remember people touting Pelle as something like the worst signing ever when we moved for him. He turned out okay.

Agreed. Having good players doesn't block the youngsters...having too many average ones does. Three okay right backs chokes off the chances of any kids getting into the team, while still failing to make the position a strength.

We already had quite a few average players; while there are a couple gaps that need filling with decent depth, the priority this summer should be on acquiring high-end talent.
