Ok so we have lost Pelle, Mane and Wanyama. Surely we all expected this? Vic and Pelle going in to their last year and Mane has clearly wanted to go for a while now, being the size of club we are we are never going to tie players down for their entire careers. The club have done magnificently to get Fraser, JWP and Virgil to sign long term contracts. The facilities and environment which the players play and train in is the best i have seen in my life time. Managers will come and go and so will players i am happy with the way the club is being run. We have a decent squad and it will improve before the start of the season, people need to be patient if Puel is a decent manager he will want to fully assess what he has got and then consider what formations/style of play he wants to use and whether we have the necessary players to fill the positions. For me Redmond is an upgrade on Juanmi, we have signed a number of promising players for the academy, we need to look at the youth players like Reed, Stephens, Turnbull, Gallagher, Isgrove, McQueen, Hesketh. If Puel does not see any of these as good enough then we are looking at 3 players to bring in. 2 attacking players and a holding midfielder. If we can secure these 3 players for a figure of 40m then we are still making profit. I think Ward-Prowse needs to be given a more prominent role in the side, he really needs to become an important player.
The core of the team is strong and the defence looks good , there really isn't that much surgery to be done, Long will become our top man and hopefully Austin and JRod can stay fit and come up with some goals. If the board can get Bertrand/Tadic to sign new deals then wel be looking pretty good.

 

Football...its a hobby, an interest, something that I like to follow. The day I start getting upset because someone's idea of how my chosen football team should be run doesnt gel with mine is the day I realise I'm taking it all way too seriously. I'm not saying everyone should be like me, as some people get much more
involved and engaged in the sport which for me is just a time filler but I do wonder about people's sense of perspective at times.
I don't know the ins and outs of our transfer business, just like I don't know the ins and outs of, say West Ham's...just what gets leaked or published in the media so I certainly wouldn't consider saying that our strategy is worse than West hams because that can only be determined after the event.
If people choose to get upset because certain terms are used that can be inflammatory, such as bedwetting etc then that is their right...a bit over-sensitive IMHO but we all have a right to feel offended by wharever we choose.
Does this difference in opinion have to stop debate though, are we so polarised in our views that we can't read a post that doesn't conform with our own views without either going on the attack or leaving the debate?
I like to read the differing opinions personally, it reminds me that we are all very different people with different motivations, beliefs and viewpoints...the fact that everybody else is wrong is neither here nor there .
What I'm trying to say I guess is just keep posting, whatever you believe, however it is received, just keep doing it anyway because otherwise there us no point in these forums.
So keep posting FLT, Spaced Saint, Beefy and everyone else that has something to say regardless of how people react...thats what this board us for.

Depends on how seriously we are going to take the EL, because at the moment it's no where near big enough to compete in both.

 

Beefy, how far is Mugabi off the first team these days? Don't really follow the academy but he was highly thought of...is he centre back now, or still playing fullback as well?

Leave em a little longer than normal, will clear up thrush too...which is the worst, the hunger or the itching, decisions, decisions.

The very real concern is that they will be laid up for a decent amount of time as well.

Lots of clubs like Crystal Palace and Watford seem to be wanting to spend above their means. We don't want to do that, but I think over the last couple of seasons we have had some fat in our squad but last season I wasn't overly impressed with our signings apart from VVD, and as we keep selling our better players and not really replacing them, we end up with not narrowing the gap with the top four, but allowing the teams behind us to catch us up.

When Pelle goes and with Mane gone, between them we will have lost a guaranteed 30 goals a season

Ashby, fair comments, (you are right to be concerned about replacing goals from two players - although we did have that when we lost Rickie and Jay. Adam
Scored a few too I think) however the middle section isn't correct. We did narrow the gap on the top four and we improved our position again.

This point here is the crux of my angst this week. I am not being sarcastic now or having a tone to upset spacedsaint. I am saying that all week this type of post has been mentioned and I and others have replied pointing out the historical facts that the reality was different; We did improve. History tells us that we should see by the end of the summer.

I was accused yesterday if not engaging but I feel the lack of engagement is actually from posters such as spacedsaint. Apologies if your are insulted by me mentioning you - I don't mean to insult, but I'd rather be frank and honest so there is no ambiguity.

Here is how I feel it goes if you remove name calling, insinuation, sarcasm, moaning, etc:

(Please take these words as examples only)

Poster Concerned: " we don't seem to be singing any players and I think the board are saving the money"

Poster not yet concerned: "why don't we wait and see. This is similar to before"

Poster Concerned: "Other clubs are making signings, we need to improve the club"

Poster not yet concerned: "But this gets said every year. Every year we make signings and we improve"

This happens a bit and then I feel that the message is chosen to be ignored. I then lose my patience. Now spacedsaint said yesterday the conversation was good natured debate until I came along (there was a lot of people already countering before I signed in yesterday afternoon), but I think he fails to realise that this type of conversation happens so often that when I come on every day to read the same negative style being posted, I tend to show little sufferance.amd that is when I hit sarcasm straight off.

All I ask is that people such as spacedsaint at least consider what we say when we say that it's early, the club have been here before, rather than just say I am making their views invalid. I am not. I am countering them.

I think we all agree that it will be tough if we don't sign anyone.
