5 Dallas police officers shot dead after a peaceful protest in downtown Dallas.

Seems to me that whilst there's a problem with institutional racism across US law enforcement, it is guns that are the real problem.

Racism is the fuel, guns are the source of ignition. US needs to take a long hard look at its attitude to policing and it's gun control laws.

There have been 491 people shot dead by police this year alone. (Of all racial backgrounds)

 

It's ridiculous isn't it that they have the gun laws they have. But what is much scarier in my opinion is this melting pot of fear, scaremongering, deliberate building of racial tension and oppression and violence we are seeing across America, Europe and most of the world which is leading to this stuff.

I mean the amount of Afro-Americans shot by police in the last few years, particularly unarmed people, is shocking. The anti-Muslim rhetoric in all European and US countries media is very worrying and hate crime against all different creeds/races are on the up, like we see from the above.

But never tell an American that a gun kills - apparently that's the stupidest thing they will ever hear!

 

It did cross my mind that this could have been a sabotage. It wouldn't be the first time US agents have put a man on the roof of a building with a high powered rifle to cause mayhem ....

As for your wider point though, totally agree. So much hatred being stirred up towards trying to divide people.

 

Whats most annoying about this whole thing is there is no middle ground.

On one hand US cops are killing unarmed black and latino children at a ridiculous rate, firing first and asking questions later.

Then when people try to bring attention to the issue with Black Lives Matter, the movement gets hijacked by militant, equally racist, ******s who pull **** like this Dallas shooting.

**** being a cop in the US. Breed a culture of fear, bigotry, racism and panic into a culture, let them all own and carry automatic weapons, with the cops not knowing if every routine traffic stop is going to turn in to a shootout, then they wonder why all the cops are panicked and have itchy trigger fingers.
The way their police are trained needs serious reformation, and their gun laws also.
Gun fayres do not even screen for a criminal record before allowing you to buy an automatic weapon in most states.

This pathetic reading of the 2nd amendment, which none of them understand. It was back in the colonial days when the US feared a governmental takeover by British interlopers. So they could carry arms, as part of a well ordered militia, in case their government turned tyrannical or was taken over.

Now, in the 21st century, if a government official does something you deem "tyrannical" or something you don't agree with, you don't have the right to just grab a rifle and ****ing shot him, thats not a right you have......so its bullshit.
Idiots claiming "You can't change the 2nd amendment!".......really, the 2nd AMENDMENT, in itself was a change to the original ****ing constitution you dumb ****s.

This will never end until their gun laws are sorted. Anyone suggesting otherwise is full of ****.

 

Anyone seen the documentary on netflix called "3 1/2 minutes, 10 shots" - it's basically about the 'stand your ground' law - ****ing ridiculous. You can basically shoot anyone dead if you 'think' your life is at risk..... Dodd in the documentary wasn't a cop so got locked up (thankfully).

Well that's the ****ing issue with this - everyone thinks differently and everyone's threshold of fear is different

Obviously not everyone, but you put that many nutters together that are used to dodgy laws and ****e amendments you'll end up with total carnage.


When I turned on the news this morning my first thought was 'good, these cops deserve it' - clearly my thoughts soon changed. But **** me to even think like that for a second shows me what's going on over there is ****ing crazy.

Then I realised what the hell I was thinking and felt ashamed of myself.
Thing is, these idiots are just as bad, because they don't even track down the cops who did the original killings (like the Eric Gardner and Tamir Rice murders), they just shoot any white police officers they see.
Not that i condone anyone shooting anyone, but if you are going to go all vengeful, at least take it out on the people who purpetrated the ****ing killings in the first place, rather than just shooting random other cops, what ****ing sense is that!! Morons!!

 

Spot on. A paranoid country, with a **** like Trump stirring up divisions and racial tensions. A police force so jittery that they've always got their finger on the trigger and a population who can walk into a gun shop with a couple hundred bucks and come out with a semi automatic pistol.

Add to that a president who is stymied at every turn when he tries to introduce gun control. The NRA need disbanding and the 2nd amendment needs ****ing amending !

 

It'll be interesting to see what happens to the cops in question - even the one's this week on video.

Let me give you a hint.....Starts with **** and ends in all.

Thats part of the problem.
I accept that not all cops are bad, and there are bad apples out there. The problem is the Police departments and state governments do nothing to weed them out.
Every time **** like this happens, and an innocent is murdered by cops, there is **** all consequence for the officer(s) in question. So what kind of example does that set? Its all well and good saying that not every cop is racist and is a gun nut etc, but when there is blatant proof of an unlawful killing, you have to make an example of these killers otherwise it emboldens other cops to act the same way.

Maybe if cops feared the repercussions they would think for an instant before opening fire.
Then you'd get people saying "Yeah but what if its a situation where they needed to shoot, and they took a second and it cost them their lives!"

Well my answer to that is two fold

1) Train them better, spend some time teaching them to de escalate situations instead of steaming in guns blazing and maybe half these shoot outs could be avoided.

2) Tough! If you aren't the sort of person who can make that decision, and cope under that sort of pressure, of policing a society where guns are an every day part of your culture, then you shouldn't ****ing be a cop...its that simple. If you sign up to be a Police officer, you have to accept occupational hazards.

 

It's murder whether you're in a uniform or not.

The fact they're allowed to get away with it makes it even more chilling. Shocking state of affairs.

Maybe the snipers were thinking 'we kill 10 then surely one of them is a bad apple'

 

Maybe, still doesn't excuse it.
Now, if they had gone to the trouble of tracking down one of these killers cops, and blowing that ****ers brains out, i would still be sat here shaking my head at the situation, but at least I would be able to make sense out of it.
Just randomly killing any police officer you see? What the **** does that achieve? Its just going to breed contempt in the heart of other cops, who will no doubt take it out on another poor, innocent black or latino guy. It helps no one.

 

Doesn't excuse it but this is how the game is played and now and again someone gets really pissed off and blows a coppers head off.

This is what happens when the Police is never prosecuted for their trigger happy behaviour.

I see another black guy got shot dead by a spazzy pig on Wednesday which was a day after the Tuesday shooting of a father of 5 who also happened to be black.

Now and again a piggy gets it in the neck. It's what white collar oppression does to some people.

The problem with trying to introduce any further gun controls in the US is the perennial one - The NRA. It was the same when I lived there 25-30 years ago. They have powerful support, are well backed financially, and have a big lobby in congress. They see any attempt at further gun control, no matter how small, as 'the thin end of the wedge' and get it voted down.

It's pure vested interest and they couldn't give a **** about the number of people killed. Which is why they come out with ridiculous platitudes, like 'People kill people'

If you've never been to the US. If you get stopped by the police, do not get out of the car, unless asked to do so. Keep your hands where the officer can see them. Make no sudden movements, and only reach for your paperwork when asked for it. And, sad but true, if you're black be doubly careful.

 

It's true lol and apparently still a law that exists. On the bright side, their tropical fish stores are very popular
