Actually there are about fifteen posts saying we should just wait and that it doesn't make sense to debate this now. However, insult me all you like.

Who's panicking though? I think people misinterpreting what I'm saying, so I'm going to sum it up now because I'm getting off the train in 10 minutes:

    - Club comes out and says that they're going to continue being prudent this transfer window is even more concerning with the massive tv deal coming into play. Palace are bidding £30m for Benteke and Watford are rejecting £30m + bids for their strikers. We should be cautious with our spending, but we ought be prepared to go up to £30m for the right player - signs are good as we apparently bid £25m for Boufal.
    - Going back to the old rumours of the "change of direction" the club was embarking upon, numerous signs point at the academy being relied upon. Ie- Appointment of Puel and his ability to use youth players, 3 academy signings announced, Koeman's departure and his apparent unwillingness to use youth. Whilst I love the idea of our academy producing first team players, I don't think we should use it for the sake of using it. The Premier League is too strong to risk it.
    - Club saying they are not worried about replacing Pelle as we signed Austin. This leaves us with Long, Austin, Jay and Gallagher/Seager. We all love Shane but he's not the striker who's going to fire us to Europe or Cup glory, Austin and Jay both have serious question marks over their long term fitness and the academy boys are unproven.

That's me for this evening, laters guys.

There are fifteen posts making a point you disagree with. You don't believe we should wait, other people do.

What debate is there? It's a difference of opinion! We don't know the board's current plan. We don't know what signings are in the pipeline. That's just a reality.

There's been plenty of room to talk about it but you're not seeing that, you just seem to have tunnel vision that people are saying you can't hold your view.

We need to take into account that the new manager needs some time to asses the squad. I'm sure we have a list of potential transfer target and would probably act more swiftly in the market had Koeman stayed, but now we need to give Puel time to see what he needs. When he see he's short of, say, a striker, I'm sure Les will produce a list of names which were extensively scouted.

To be honest spacedSaint I can't win with the likes of you. Hours ago I pointed out the line that the club would spend. It was ignored. I raised it again and it was belittled. I didn't mean anou that because so what, I just took it that you are too negative to see the glimmer of light that was offered. Blinkered.

I didn't admit my tone was off, I admitted I used that tone. Sarcasm. When all else fails I often use it. Sometimes I start with it.

We offer positive views to your negativity and you just whine that we are insulting. Step around the words and take the points.

To be honest, I think you should just put me on your ignore list.

As it happens I completely agree with this - particularly the last comment about relying on the strikers we currently have (as I mentioned a few pages back, I 100% think we need to buy another).

First two points totally on side with, but as you say the rumour/reality is that we were prepared to bid £25m for Boufal, so actually the signs are that we're prepared to spend for the right player.

What's the opposite of "panicking", out of interest? Whatever it is, I'm doing it. There is a concern that the club are going to go into the next season without replacing the 3 key players we have sold, including our top two strikers. In my opinion, this is an unjustified concern, bordering on panic at this stage of the transfer window, and with most players who have been playing in the Euro's still on holiday. The other concern is that the club are not going to spend a substantial amount on these replacements. The fact is, nobody knows, but I would be very surprised if we didn't at least come close to breaking our transfer record. That's my opinion. Of course the "critical brigade" have a right to their views and I will defend to the death their right to air them, but they would have a lot more credibility if they had been proved right at any point over the last few years, other than those whoe who saw through Koeman. Step forward Tintin!

5 pages of bickering. Keep up the good work.

I'll wait until 31st August until I worry about signings.

What do you think has changed specifically about our direction?

This Summer is going pretty much the same as the last 2 as far as I can tell so far. I still expect us to end up around even in regards to net spend. Though I do think that will have to change in the not too distant future if we are to establish ourselves as an upper mid table/edges of Europa team.

The changes to the club's direction are as follows:

    - we are now going to buy in young European talent to top up the talent pool in our U18/U21 set-up, before we didn't pursue that
    - we are going to make sure the pathway isn't blocked, pathway doesn't just mean starting games, it means being around the first team
