As it stands at this moment I can't see where the goals are coming from. Any new players coming in will have roughly a weeks training before our first friendly.

This is looking more and more like it is all to do with money and nothing else.

Do you seriously think we're going to the leave the squad as it is? And to be honest, who cares about the friendlies. They're just to build fitness up. It really doesn't matter if we haven't made all our signings before our first friendly. What have the board done in the past - keep the money or reinvest it in the squad?

Yes, although I feel slightly defensive of the club, as the turmoil/turnover has been managed so well over the last couple of seasons (and their have been incremental improvements) your sentiments highlight the main worry. Can we do this year after year after year?

I'm just glad that Gladys our tea lady is staying, yes I know she makes a cracking cuppa, yes I know she's just had her 76th birthday but she's still got 3 years on her contract.
But if Roma or Juve come in with a sizeable offer will she go aswell??

Clubs like Palace, Bournemouth & Watford are not richer than us but are all more active and stronger in the transfer market. Our problem is telling players before they join, that they can leave after a couple of good seasons, we got £30m for Mane, yet Watford rejected £38m for Ighalo and £30m for Deeney.

The structure has worked to date but the new TV deal has changed the playing field - when a PL club comes calling for a player, the selling club knows what we can offer. We can't refuse to 'overpay' and just sit on the extra cash out of principle, because no other team will do that.

Christ, £8-12 million isn't cheap at all. Plenty of talent in Europe for that price bracket. Tadic, Mane, Pelle, Long all come under that. Think some fans need to stop looking at fees, and fees only.

In the current market it is for PL clubs, clubs from abroad will add another 50% on the asking price when an English team comes calling. None of the players you mentioned had proven themselves in a top league either, hence they were in that price bracket.

Also, in a world where Jordan Ibe & James Tompkins are £15m & £10m respectively - you can see what that sort of money gets you domestically.

I see your point, and I admit I haven't read what the club has said regards not paying over the odds (where was this?) but are we not being a bit premature? I would be surprised if we don't spend some half decent money on a few players. Still time. I guess the club have my trust till the beginning of the season!

Which is why the club won't really be looking at domestic transfers because of the inflated prices. Most of the signings will come from Europe.

The Mane replacement better be someone outstanding as Puel is being sold down the puel hole at the moment.

Yes, everyone with a more critical line only looks at limited statements and then makes sweeping judgements...

    Seriously?

I have been harping on about the board's clear move toward minimal spending since Puel arrived to a fanfare of "he works well with kids" and no mention of budget. I checked, btw, and Koeman was promised the money from sales. Last year we profited on sales. This year we took £100m + from prize money / tv, and then sold £40 (going to be £50) million of players - yet put it out there we won't be going over the odds on signings. There is no over the ods anymore. We are dirty rich. Dirty, dirty rich. And not spending.

Closer to 60-65m in income, by my math. 13m for Pelle, maybe 32m for Mane, 11m for Wanyama (as we said 8m was inaccurate), 2m for Juanmi, 5m for Koeman. Could be off by a couple mil here or there.

This is hilarious. Critical comment is bedwetting. Okay.

Why not send us to room 101?

Not just critical comment, it's the conspiracy theory ideas that the board are selling out or something. This has happened literally every summer since 2009, and we have consistently improved our league position every year since then. I just don't understand it!

There is no way that the board will let us blow our hard-earned place in the Europa group stage because we failed to buy players.

I take a different view; if you keeo the door open for the youngsters, you can realistically expect some of them to step up. These are kids who have consistently shown exceptional talent - otherwise they wouldn't have got this far - and who have been intensively coached to a high standard. Give them a chance, have some belief, watch them flourish. Hopefully.

This forum goes through the same crap every season. Kind of getting boring now.
