Robbie McNamara starts his training career at Cork tomorrow. I'd like to see him start with a winner. Chadic is 12/1 and that'll do for me.
If the weather forecast is close to accurate, the fast ground will not last at Newmarket until Saturday so hopefully it is not hock-deep for the July Cup. Presumably Kevin Ryan has now been convinced that The Grey Gatsby is a ten furlong horse and it has been confirmed to Mark Johnston that Lumiere just had an off-day in the 1000 Guineas and she can win some decent mile prizes. With so much soft ground form around (most of Royal Ascot useless), it is hard to find much to be confident about at HQ. Makfi filly Bletchley ran a cracking second to Brave Anna in the Albany (Kilmah behind) but some confidence can be taken in her ability because she won on fast ground on debut, albeit unfancied in either of her starts. Nasimi won on her debut on easy ground, beating Nations Alexander, who in turn has beaten Somebody To Love. Unpenalised Group 3 winner Roly Poly cannot be discounted and the two maiden race winners Asidious Alexander and Soul Silver are unknowns, so since the favourite is too short to bet this will be a race for the notebook. It is a shame that Euro Charline is not taking her chance after her good second in the Lockinge, but Andre Fabre’s raider Usherette looks the one to beat. Amazing Maria won this last term but has shown little of that spark in two efforts to date, well behind Tepin at Ascot and behind the favourite at Newmarket. Always Smile was behind Mickael Barzalona’s mount at Ascot, so unless the fast ground proves her undoing, the Godolphin filly should land the odds. Looks like I will have to look elsewhere for a Friday punt...
Lumiere won impressively to be fair to her but it's hard to think she beat anything that wouldn't be out of place in a class 4 handicap.
Here's the write up on SEVEN HEAVENS from RP: "THE 6f maiden at Ascot on Friday at 2.30pm sees a number of well-bred and expensive horses make their debuts including the latest progeny of dual world champion Frankel to hit the track. John Gosden, who saddled Frankel's first runner and winner when Cunco won in May, trains Seven Heavens for Khalid Abdullah. Bred by Cheveley Park Stud the colt is the fourth foal out of the Group 3-winning and Group 1-placed Pivotal mare Heaven Sent and is a half-brother to the dual winner Firmament. Further back in his pedigree is the multiple Grade 1-winning Pivotal mare Megahertz. Seven Heavens could be the latest winner for Banstead Manor Stud resident Frankel who has supplied five winners from five runners in Europe this year." He was the only offspring of Frankel bought at the sales by Juddmonte, which suggests they were very taken with him. Cheveley Park have a policy of selling their colts as yearlings, though they have retained one Frankel Colt out of Red Bloom after he injured himself shortly before the Sales.
Chester 355 Chauvlin beat the fav a few weeks back and is 5lbs better of today took 8s last night 10s available with stan but 6s as a main. Looks value
To follow up yesterday's relative success on the Newmarket 2yo maidens let's take a look at the first at Newmarket that used to be the influential Strutt and Parker Maiden Stakes. Amlad is by Lope de Vega out of a mare from a pretty good 2yo family. Chaparrachik is a High Chapparal colt out of a good family that traces back to Larkspur's dam. Though the dam did nothing there are plenty of highly rated Canadian and US horses close up in her pedigree. D'Bai is nicely bred Dubawi colt from the Carlton House family: I'd expect him to be better over much further. Dubai Hero is by Dark Angel and from a family that has done most of its racing in Italy. Hyde Park is by Dream Ahead out of mare whose dam was 2nd in the Prix de Diane. Mr Tyrrell is by Helmet out of a mare from the other good Oppenheimer family (not Golden Horn but Dancing Rocks and Footprintsinthesand). Tricky competition and more difficult than yesterday's and the winner could come from those I've not even mentioned. If I was there I'd take a chance on Mr Tyrrell. I'd also be interested in the running of Chaparrachik for the future. Another Frankel runs today and he looks the likely one in that race at Ascot. A place on Solomon's Bay who is by Exceed and Excel out of a Sadler's Wells mare from the Boussac 'E' family of Estimate etc. may be more profitable.
Of course, You See meant to say 3.55 at Musselburgh for Chauvelin, not Chester ( 6s on BET 365, so that's good enough for me )
Is this ambitious? Foolish? Ridiculous, even. Bit of all 3, I reckon, and that makes me smile! The combo of the mo, the J and N show, is on the road today. York 1.50 Indie Rock 2.20 Katrine Chester 6.50 Aardwolf 7.20 Camargue Small money e/w 4-fold will do very nicely indeed. Come on, Franny lad! I've also gone for another ridiculous bet with Edgar Balthazar in the 2.40 at Newmarket; bit of small change from yesterday's double going on there. Can Dettori grab the early headlines with Hyde Park? ( there might still be time for a dabble on Modernism in the climax at Chester ) Good Luck all, enjoy a good days racing
Indie Rock at 10.00 in the 13:50 at York Monoshka at 6.50 in the 14:30 at Ascot Edgar Balthazar at 21.00 in the 14:40 at Newmarket Lucky Esteem at 2.38 in the 14:50 at Musselburgh Good luck! http://freebetcalc.com/odds-calculator/lucky-15-calculator?prefill=10.00,6.50,21.00,2.38
Look Closer 8.10 Navan Comes from a nice family with some big race winners. Finished sixth in a strong maiden last time which included The Gurka. The price is disappearing rapidly. Shanpallas 7.55 Cork This is a nice little race. McKinley can be a hard one to nail down. While Simenon is having his first run over hurdles in two years. There has been money for this one aswell and being one of JPs that could a tip. Vivre Piur Vivre 4.45 Newmarket I'll give this one another chance. I'm certain he has the ability to win something like this but he just needs to settle better and if he does he should place at least. He wasn't given a hard race last time when he was allowed to come home at his own pace having blown his chance in the first half of the race.
Two wearing Blue for me today, going ew on both and ew double. 2.40 New FAWAAREQ 9/1 4.10 Asc INDIRA 10/1

From what I understand INDIRA has been laid out for this race and the related "Final" of the series on 1st Oct at Newmarket.
Thanks for the heads up Princess, may invest a few more pennies now. Could do with a few winners as my eldest is soon to be 18.
Over at York, there are sufficient numbers in most of the races that I would not even bother. However, the feature race, the Group 3 Summer Stakes at 4:00, is a select field of fillies and the one that catches is the eye is last year’s Lowther winner BESHARAH. Clearly it has been decided that a mile is not her trip after her reasonable fourth in the Pouliches (French 1000 Guineas) at Deauville with my money weighing her down and her dismal showing in the Coronation Stakes at Ascot. Dropped back to six furlongs, she may be the one in what looks a three-way contest with the other three-year-olds La Rioja and Mayfair Lady. Looking at the handicaps on the Newmarket card, I keep looking at BANKSEA in the 4:45 because he seems to fit a familiar profile. He is from the Cumani stable, he won what looks like an ordinary handicap at Pontefract last time and has not been unduly punished by the handicapper. Am I looking the gift horse in the mouth here? There are only three or four that I am bothered about including the Mark Johnston trained Bathos at 16/1!
The Queen visits Musselburgh racecourse today and should we take the hint with her colt Elementary in the 2nd race. For some reason Bell has booked D O'Brien (3) for the ride and he also gets the leg up on her Forecaster in the following race.
Anyone else spotted the plunge on Column in the 2-40 Newmarket? On the basis that someone will lose a lot of money if its misplaced faith, I have thrown a cheeky tenner at it! Elsewhere my fancies are Indira, Nasimi, Wild Hacked, Mayfair Lady and Aristocratic. Good luck all
