Good Morning Everyone, Have Leeds recent signings came at a cost? Is Lewis Cook really on his way out of Elland Road? If so, is Leon Osman a suitable replacement? Sorry to say, the rumours are true. Cook has jumped on a plane and is heading for Bournemouth airport where he will agree personal terms and undergo a medical. The fee is 6m. It is believed there are additional clauses. Thoughts? As far as I am concerned if the lad doesn't want to play for the club anymore, he should go sooner rather than later. Its not as if Cellino is selling him against his will. He has one year left on his contract. Take the 6m. Cellino has given Cook his blessing as in his own words has behaved honorably which is more than he can say for Charlie Taylor. Taylor and his agent have done everything possible to avoid negotiation talks with the club. His contract too runs out next Summer by which time will be 23. This means the club would still be entitled to compensation for him as long as Leeds have at least offered him a new contract. Cellino said he would rather lose Taylor on a free than let him leave now. "We are not going to let him go now. Trust me!" Silvestri has also left the training camp in Ireland, and will instead be training with the under 21's whilst his next club is sorted out. I believe I heard that Fulham were interested. Thoughts?
Cooks wage would rise from 6k a week to 30k a week following his transfer. Not sure too many people would actually turn that down.
Morning all.. All players wanting to leave - Can you blame them, look at what has gone on at our club over recent seasons, they see it first hand and I dare say they hear a lot more than we do. No ambition, crazy owner, new coach twice a season, backroom staff shortage... You only have to read over again what Lucy Ward said. First Taylor... Cellino is playing the "big I am" card. He should have sorted his contract long ago. He won't walk on a free, a tribunal will decide next season, Cellino makes out the money or fee isn't an issue, that's because he knows he won't walk away for zero. Taylor has the same agent as Byram, I'm afraid it sounds like Cellino and his ego at fault once again. Cook good luck to him, as others have said, great potential but we need something special now. I guess these players don't share the same optimism that the fans have. Silvestre, as long as we keep Peacock-Farrell then replacing him for Green was a superb move. Not sure on Osman but with the 1.7m we will receive for Kasper moving to Everton and the sale of Cook (and not forgetting Byram money which I assume wasn't all spent) this transfer window looks like returning a small profit so far?
Morning all Disappointed in Cook not seeing out the remainder of his contract after reading how he was looking forward to working this season with Monk and his staff. At just 19 years old, he could afford to wait another season. We will probably never know the full ins and outs of it all, but I wonder if we would have got Roofe if Cook was staying. And spare a thought for the Oxford fans. They are probably thinking the same as we are regarding Cook. Anyway, good luck to the lad and maybe we can see him back in our colours one day if we make the step up.
Morning all. Get a grip. Cook increasing his wages to 30k a week. We cant and shouldnt try to compete with that. Hes not worth it. Ask yourselves, if he really is as good as some believe, why are Bournemouth only club interested. Once again we ove estimate the quality of our youngsters. As Elland said, like them all, hes in it for the money as is his agent so best of luck to the lad but dont fall into the trap of using it as an excuse to Cellino bash
I haven't seen anyone bashing Cellino over Cook Eire? I don't blame him wanting to better himself but I don't believe for a split second he has been offered £30k a week.
Couldn't agree more. Cook can turn this move down if he wants to stay. Would be better off selling Taylor if he wants to leave.
I will be sorry if either Cook or Taylor leave. I believe Taylor will be more difficult to replace because he is nearer to the finished product now. However ANY player who does not want to play for the club should be sold, but it will take the gloss off our new signings. No one is irreplaceable except Massimo.
Marco Silvestri has flown back from Ireland and is training with the u21's. So it looks very likely that he will be shipped out sometime soon. I can't really say I am too disappointed with this one. Successful teams build from the back and you can't have someone like Silvestri in goal with all his faults if you are genuinely chasing promotion/play-offs. BPF can hopefully learn a lot from Green and be a good number 1 for us in the years to come.
Or until his agent decides its time to cash in. Its hard to accept agents get upwards of 10% of transfer fees so Cooks pockets at least 600k for a few phone calls. Wonder is it too late for me to change profession
Morning all. Pity if Cook goes. But I think £6m is a bit low. Also it would be a pity if Taylor left. Think his adviser is a prat.
I totally agree Taylor will be far harder to replace and I also agree if a player has his head turned there isn't much you can do. I just wish the contracts had been sorted a lot earlier. If Taylor joins Cook or he ends up performing poorly due to being refused a move you would have to question how much (if any) stronger at the moment we are than last season. Only time will tell but that is the life of a Leeds United supporter, one day it looks like great strides are being made and the next... I guess the positives are that we have been busy bringing in the new players ahead of any departures. The prospect of Roofe and Wood up front, Berardi, Bartley, Cooper, Taylor and Green at the back does excite me. I hope Cellino keeps to his word, refuse Taylor the move and fingers crossed he still performs as he did last season.
A prat who stands to make a lot of money. Fukcing agents only interested in lining their own pockets nowadays.
Makes you think something is going on behind the scenes. Cellino letting all his fellow Italians go home. We can live in hope.
Morning all ... English football is in a bad way thanks to the silly Sky money ... players are massively over rated simply because transfer fees are massively inflated and wages are obscene ... the Prem is moving further and further away from grassroots football, and it is killing the English game ... the fact that a tiny club like Bournemouth can come to Leeds and hand over £6m to sign an academy graduate shows how false the English football game is today ... clubs outside the Prem (except those with parachute payments) are fighting a rapidly losing battle because one good season from any of their talented players means clubs with money moving in with big wages offered ... Cook will be getting above £20k per week easily, because that's the going rate in the Prem ... chances are he won't start 20 games next season for Bournemouth, who can afford to pay £6m for a player of the future ... laughable really, but look at the bloated Prem squads where so many players are paid stupid money to be reserves ... with the high wages the need to start every week falls away ... gone are the days where footballers valued playing time because their wages were supplemented by bonuses: win, scoring a goal, clean sheet, draw, log position on Saturday evening, appearance ... footballers worked hard to make sure they were in the matchday squad, and overall squads rarely reached 20 players in total because players would push themselves through the pain barrier to get those matchday bonuses Today, if you're not in the Prem then it's going to be a struggle to compete effectively in the transfer market and the manager market ... that said, there is one constant regarding promotion, the manager ... we have a good manager in Monk who will help our players, an intelligent man who is calm, organised and assured ... the sale of Cook was inevitable, and £6m rising to £10m is over paying for sure, so we can't complain about the fee ... Taylor's agent is clearly trying to force a move because it means more money for him, but his problem is that nobody has shown any interest ... Taylor should sign a new deal at Leeds, because anything can happen down the road like a serious injury, and then his free agent status means nothing ... we all know that even if Taylor signs a new deal, if a club came along with a stupid offer he would go anyway, so his agent is currently giving Charlie pretty bad advice As for our new signings, good work so far and we can see a competitive team taking shape ... the new boys are coming here with a desire to succeed, and under Monk you get the sense that slackers or dressing room assassins won't be tolerated ... I expect to see a Leeds United team playing with passion, fighting for everything with a strong team spirit, regardless of what our squad looks like come the end of the transfer window ... MONEY MONEY ****ing money..........fecking sick of it..I know Bournemouth are in the PL but he could find himself back in the Championship the season after this one. So it ain't about ambition, it's all about the money. If we had any ambition we'd be building the team around these young players. A bit gutted.
