So it's a sad day to see JB going but if I'm honest I think the writing has been on the wall for a long long time. Think he's a fantastic player but unfortunately I think he's done this to himself. I hate the board at the toon but on the other hand what choice did he really leave them? I don't know many employers football or not that would put up with someone constantly critising them. In the real world if your a disruptive employee the chances are you'll get the boot! And in Joey's case it was worse as the club stuck by him during his sentence.
JB thanks for everything - top top player but as it should be in football, no one player is bigger than the club! Time for someone else to step up to the mark! As Joey Barton once said 'the king is dead, long live the king!' - just hope the tight fisted so n so has the decentcy to get his hand in his pocket and replace quality with quality, though I won't be holding my breath! Cabaye can do the job, but we wouldn't be making any progress on last season, who would be a good signing?

no one player is bigger than the club - correct.
but caroll , nolan , barton and enrique all going (routledge / campbell / kuqi / maybe ranger) with 4 coming in, 2 1st team regs, 1 maybe , 1 squad player.
pardew said our squad was thin last year!!! so do the maths now?
he has no control over the team and is constantly back tracking himself, 1 player to come in his latest quote?? whats he going to say today ?? sholas been offered a new 4 yr deal <doh>

I don't think it was so much the club who stood by Barton, more like Kevin Keegan. If Ashley had got his way, Barton would have had his contract terminated when he went to jail.

Barton is paid ridiculously well by his employers but he is still entitled to free speech. His criticism is a recent thing and merely reflects the undercurrent of discontent with the way the club is going. We criticise footballers for being 'a bit thick' so hearing one who is intelligent and articulate should be refreshing.

Ashley is about money, Keegan was about football. Never the twain shall meet it seems.

Keegan knew what Barton had to offer and was prepared to take a chance on him regardless of his bad boy image ( which by the way has disappeared ) and has been proved right. Joey has been a model pro in my eyes and a model of consistency. You can't expect much more from anybody than he's given us.

If Ashley is all about money, why is he letting Barton go for Free.

Think Barton has been stiring up the **** in the background to get this kind of reaction from the board.

Voicing your opionin is fine if it's done in the right way, Barton and Twitter were always going to be a problem.

If he loved the club so much and just wanted to play he would have kept his head down and seen out his year left, then mouthed off once he had moved on.
He wanted to move IMO which is why he's been spouting off.

Like others before have said, you may hate your boss. but you don't go mouthing off at work about it cause you'll get warning and sacked eventually.
They maybe be paid obscene amounts but it's still the same basic rule.

Ashley wants players to play not mouth off.
