Sorry Bath whilst I agree that it isn't as simple as; we'll pay you this sign here please. The point still remains, we don't get business done early or at all! With a well organised team who know what they are doing, signings can be completed efficiently and effectively. I don't imagine AN has not submitted a shopping list, so the board/buyers/lawyers that we have are not really cutting the Colmans! You might say the widow has been open only a week, but agents phones are on permanently and deals can be agreed before the window opens. So why are we again dragging our heels? Have no lessons been learned from last year and before?

If Tim stays the window will have been OK, nothing more as I'm beginning to suspect we have another rather frustrating window ahead.

    Bah!

I wouldn't read too much into things just yet General. We trusted AN to get us out of the Championship and he did. His business has been in the past reasonable but big money does not guarantee results as we saw with The Wolf! I am sure that we will have a competitve squad up and running for 4 weeks time.

I thought Bournemouth bidding £15m for Ibe as just paper guff. I'm sure I just heard on Talksport that Liverpool have accepted a 15M bid from Bournemouth!!

Really didn't think Liverpool would sell him. He's got massive potential. Fantastic signing, and statement of intent from Bournemouth if they pull this off!

Would anyone else give RVW another chance? Save us signing a load of strikers. I think I would really like to get him in pre-season, and playing Friendlies with the team. If he shows a bit of promise, then let him lose in the Championship for a few games. He's got talent somewhere! It can't have just gone!

Give Lafferty a chance as well, and suddenly I think we might only need 1 really good promising striker. I really wanted Dembele from Fulham, he's now moved to Celtic. Another lad at Fulham I'm a big fan of is Woodrow. I think he will be a future Premiership striker. He's the kind of lad I can see Burnley or Bournemouth get and then turn him into a big money player. Also like Zach Clough at Bolton who, I think we have been linked with.

I'd be happy to give both Laffers and RvW another go this season? They provide different options, like you though I would still like to see another Striker to come in.

I'd like to see them both given a chance. As you say, very different styles of strikers.

Lafferty I think is a bit like a really poor Kane. Looks like just a tall target man who who is good in the air, and can't poach, but he can do a lot more than that, and is a bit more skillful than you think from a first look.

RVW is like a poor Torres (from the games before we signed him) scored goals, likes to play on the shoulder, makes runs.

2 very different options. I think it would be a waste is we just tried to sell them off really cheap or let them leave on frees.

According to the Liverpool Echo Canas and his reps are currently holding talks with us, so movement at last.

If we are starting the season giving RvW and Lafferty one last chance then every one involved in recruitment has failed abysmally and should be fired, except they're hired hands, owners and the manager! Well we could sack Neil and write a snotty letter to the other company.

    Bah!

So far we have lost O'Neil and Redmond for around £9-10m in fees and wages saved. If we do sign Canos in the next few days, that is reasonably balanced with an extra £6-7m to spend. If Brady leaves, we could have another £12m to spend on at least one quality striker, if not two with the rest of the Redmond money. Beyond that, it depends on whoever else leaves, if anybody. There's still a long time to go and new signings to be made. For a light-hearted look at it, try this:

If Bournemouth sign Ibe for £15m and Lewis Cook for £6m, then I've gotta say, I'm a fan of how they do business. 2 class English youngsters with massive potential. They know you have to pay for that, and they are just getting on with it.

Looking at our current squad depth, even if Brady follows Redmond out, except for new strikers how many players do we really need if Canos does sign? (Second positions are in brackets)

    GK Ruddy, Rudd, Kean (McGovern?)
    RB Pinto, Martin, Whittaker
    CB Klose, Bassong, Bennett, (Martin)
    LB Olsson, (Brady), Toffolo, (Whittaker)
CM Howson, Dorrans, Odjidja-Ofoe, McGrandles, Godfrey
    DM Tettey, Mulumbu, Thompson
    WL Brady, (Jarvis), (Hoolahan), (Naismith)
WR Jarvis, Canos?, Jacob Murphy, (Odjidja-Ofoe)
    AM Hoolahan, Naismith, Maddison, Andreu
    S Jerome, RvW, Lafferty, Morris

That doesn't mean we shouldn't be looking for new players, but we are doing so from quite a strong position. Hopefully, there's a 'young hungry player' aspect to the six young players who would be fighting for a place in the starting line-up.
