What with our delusional lack of signings this summer, I was wondering..... What if this worked in our favour. Last season, we had a close-knit squad, who were hard to beat. Played with ( at times ) with a great deal of flair, and had a great level of consistency. Having not made major signings this close-season to upset the 'apple cart' We have thus retained a good level of continuity, and team spirit. The evidence of this seen recently in Italy. That the ones we have made ( signings ) by all accounts, have been very shrewd. Dyer, has proved popular in training and has impressed all at the club, and more importantly he is impressed with the training & the club. ( Pray that he stays fit. He is a quality plater when he is.) Gabbidon, has also been better recieved than expected, and has bought with him a class above what we already had. Bothroyd ,has the pedigree, and still has that raw hunger to prove himself, has scored for us in Italy & now has his big chance in the prem. What with retaining the services of Adel, which in my opinion is as good as a £15m signing, and of course the rest of the squad ever improving and rising to the challenge of the ' Premiership ' ( I love saying that.... Were Back! ) If they can step up and start raising their game, Orr , Smith, Hill, Derry, Gorkks, and of course Faurlin... ( Get him in your Dream Team ) they still have that ecletic mixture of hunger, youth and experience. ( Unlike Norwich & Swansea ) Paddy Kenny is solid and needs no incentive, he was born great. Also throw into this our opening fixtures... Bolton H, Everton A, Wigan H, Newcastle H, Wolves A, Villa H, Fulham A, Blackburn H, ( they're all winnable. ) It's not until Oct 23rd ..Chelski at Home , that we entertain any of the top 5! By which time we shall have found our ' Premiership legs ' and realise that we have nothing to worry about. Norwich, Swansea, Blackburn, Wigan, Bolton Wolves & Newcastle are no way better than us. And of course, keeping this great group of players, under the guidance of 'Sir Neil of Warnock ' our greatest contempory signing. The partisan crowd and close proximity to the pitch at our gladitorial stadium & the atmosphere of ' Loftus Road ' ......... We might just hold our own. Enjoy the season. 'Come on u Rs!'
At last a positive post. I'm with you and behind the team. I think our lads showed great character last season with everything that was thrown at them. Lets hope we can carry this forward. good post 999.
I think we only need DJ Campbell and one other player, a good defender. Then I'd say we're pretty much ready to go. Don't forget there's another transfer window, too. But... I wouldn't write off those other teams yet. It will still be hard. Essentially, there are no need for predictions. Let's just see what happens and keep supporting.
If we got DJ Campbell and another solid centre back,( Meite of west brom is available on a free) then I think were stay up comfortably I think. In a perfect world I'd want a quick full back, but that looks ominous at the moment
999 good post agree and hope we could get a bit more positive on here We are the Rangers boys stand up and make some noise we have been through a lot but on the pitch our boys have been fantastic its about time we looked at ourselves and took a bit of pride at what we have done and what we are without the S***storm off the pitch .... when are people on here going to accept that the very reason we are back in the premiership was because of our team spirit ... so much of the posts on here are drivel ... you cannot buy what we have it has to be carefully nurtured and inspired which of course NW has done. 999 has the right attitude for me to anyone else i say this pick the best team in the world on paper then see if they would play together i think you would find they wont r's
I also agree, we are greater than the sum of our parts. This QPR team is the first in a long time to give me a genuine sense of confidence. Teams of years gone by have left me nervous to the point that I felt QPR was synonymous with always falling short, nearly-not-quite, second best and no self belief. This lot have proved themselves a different proposition, a talented bunch with flair, a tough attitude, a good understanding of each other and a great sense of unity and for these reasons plus the fact that those who worked so hard to get us where we are deserve their reward, I totally agree with your positive outlook 999. Well said. Come on you sooooopaaaahhhh ........
Makes a nice change from the constant moaning and complaining, sad way to be if thats how you get your kicks.
The defence is our weakness now, I feel, and we need at least one new top class player. Gabbidon looks unpredictable. He had a mare in that first leg of the Italian Tri-club cup.
If we get onuha from city we would be much better at the back-saying that NW has admitted Gorkss is on his way( I do not know why, he's our best defender) but with onuha he's young hungry and was a regular for Sunderland last year
I couldn't help it! Sorry for being such a miserable git gents. On a serious note 999, what you say is not impossible. My mind keeps going back to that great season Reading had around four years ago when, after winning promotion, they went on to finish 9th. I went over to their board to see if it was true that they didn't spend anything after winning promotion and sure enough all they did was bring in a couple of Bosman's from Brentford of all Clubs. Asked what the secret was and was told, you guessed it: Team Spirit. You may well have touched on the biggest asset we have, my friend.
Swords Focus and Believe ... not everything can be compared nor explained by history but good point about Reading its factual
This is a bit like the stoic English family who go on holiday but the weather is awful and the hotel is worse. "Ah well, we'll still make the best of it" Dad would say. Of course there are some positives in terms of building on a team that had such belief and spirit last season but I don't recall anyone talking about Orr, Hill Derry, etc being realistic options for the PL until now.
Of course were not the greatest team, and I have realistic expectations of the coming season. But we're getting very close to kick-off now. There's not a lot we as fans & supporters can do as regards to player purchases and boardroom shenanigans. But we can influence things where it matters. I firmly believe that the ' crowds mood ' transfers itself to the players on the pitch. If were positive and loud, the boys will respond. It's time to give our team the best we can. Having got here, I don't want to play the victim and let us simply lay down and die. I'm going to bloody well enjoy it. Come what may.
Spot on 999, i adopted the same mentality two weeks ago, i won't pass on this chance after all the wait! I'm going to enjoy it, even if that makes me a sadomachosist My goal; approach the season in the same manner that the Blackpool supporters did last year and hope for the same outcome as Reading achieved in their first season in the Prem (good point swords)
IN ALL HONESTY,YOU ARE TOTALLY RIGHT. I think our easiest one is Chelsea as we actually have passion for our club. I wouldn't be be surprised if Bernie will bring his Chelsea shirt
