Very few people coming out of this argument looking good atm (not a Romanian atm either).....

I'm amazed by the focus on the short term financial issues and EU immigration; there are other issues with the EU positive and negative that simply appear to be overlooked in favour of more populist arguments.

Development and democracy of the Baltic states and former USSR satellite states can be attributed to the work of EU both before and after the accession of these countries to the EU - a good thing for world security, trade and peace. It's no coincidence that these states are not only members of the EU but also NATO.

As an example of a negative a British national who wanted to bring their Cameroonian spouse, who has a criminal record and limited English language skills, to the UK would stand little chance (unless already resident in an EU state) of being able to do so as they would in likelihood not qualify for the relevant entry clearance (visa). However a French, Greek, Irish, etc etc national could bring the same spouse to the UK with no entry clearance under EU/EEA regs.

There's more to this than the price of Peters house or the nationality of some copper thieves.

2. Didn't say it was...the ancient Egyptian societies were not white and the had slaves as did other non white societies.
3. Agree but was talking in the sense of it being universally accepted as being OK and normal as it was in years gone by. Slavery was also used to create new empires which it is no longer allowed to do.

 

Pages back, some of us tried widening the discussion, but some seem stuck on the two issues you mention and refuse to move on. Sadly, even then, they seem limited on those too.
