As long as we get about £8/10m for him then I really don't care. It wouldn't be an example of not being able to hold on to our best players, just smart business.

 

At £8-10M it might, probably would, be perceived as such. Remember that Lambert is always considered as one of the stars that left, even though we were quite happy for him to leave, and he went for £4M. Call it £14-16M and the rest of the world would understand. And I'd be happier too. Personally, I think he might stay, which I'd be entirely happy about too. St Helen would be ecstatic, of course.

 

Depends on who's point of view you are talking about. I think regardless of the price the media will beat the drum about a crisis on the south coast. But most fans will understand.

We are an ambitious club...no way will we sell players we really want to keep, but we also recognise there is a natural turnover where the price and time is right. However, the club's main aim is football...not making money (although it is a business and success in football will usually lead to financial success). The board's job is balancing these things out....they will not be selling without thought to the consequences.

My interest was raised when the headline suggested that Pelle wanted to stay here....then realised it was just responding to his tweet about pleased to meet the manager and staff at SMS. No one has suggested that he doesn't like it here...you can like a place and still seek a move. So it's a case of as you were.
