Property long term is always a good investment, it's just how hard the market is hit and how long people face being in potential negative equity. Anyone old enough to remember what that was like in the early 90's in the Tory boom and bust cycle will tell you it's not pleasant. Young families are generally those worst affected, as they can end up trapped in property that they've out grown.

As for interest rates, the way that inflation has usually been handled in the past has been to increase them. However, given that inflation rises will be in the context of falling consumption then Carney's view is seemingly that he'll have to at least hold them or maybe in the short term reduce them further. But over the longer term if they are forced up, and housing stock has fallen by 20-30% then there'll be carnage. We'll have to wait and see how it pans out, but personally I think it'll be a painful experience for many.

I think I'm right in thinking that he'll want to decrease/hold interest rates at this time of uncertainty as well to discourage saving and encourage people taking out loans (encourage banks lending) and spending to try and boost the economy. Happy for others with more know/looked into it more to correct me - give a more reasoned answer though. I think that's how it works though.

Personally I can't see house prices falling, holding maybe, but not falling - not for any scientific reason, but a gut reason - just the fact that we have a population increase and a housing deficit, we aren't building enough houses, we have hardly any affordable houses and so it would seem demand will continue to outstrip supply.

Are you saying that you don't mind more immigrants as long as they are not from Europe?

He's been saying for days that the EU freedom of movement principle is racist...as it is supposedly prejudiced against nations that aren't primarily white........despite them not being in Europe.....

    Go figure

Yes, that's what Carney's view is, however with a falling pound and our trade deficit, imported goods will cost more and therefore increase inflation. The historic way of tackling inflation has usually been by the converse i.e. increasing interest rates. Rising inflation will reduce disposable income and combined with falling consumer confidence that would lead to a drop in GDP and thus a retraction of the economy i.e. a recession.

In recession the house building industry is usually the first to draw it's horns in and moth ball projects, as demands drops and house prices go South, thus either reducing or wiping out their margins.

Can we put the immigration issue to bed now please?
The EU has ruled out compromise over the fundamental question of whether the UK can have access to the single market while refusing to accept the free movement of people.
And because access to the free market is vital, I am afraid free movement will stay folks.
I wanted out of the EU because they are unelected, corrupt, globalist, federalist **** bags and the whole ****ing thing needs to be torn down.
France and Belgum can kiss my ass.
Who would have thought Merkel would be our biggest ally in all of this!?

Once Juncker is gone and a proper exit has been negotiated, we can all move on with our lives.

Not according to the Rule Britannia lot on here mate. They're going to drop their trousers when we go marching over to Brussels, and according to the Mitcham slum landlord, we're going to emerge with free trade and closed borders, and the EU will be grateful for it.

The next Tory leader is going to be stuck between a rock and a hard place when they get to the negotiating table.

They should maybe send Pete and he can wave his bollocks at Merkel, and tell her that we're not having any more of those damn foreigners, so sign the deal bowl head and lets' crack on.
