A part of I may be to do with grow phases. Some 17 year olds have fully grown, others haven't and so the strain and stress of professional sport may be problematic.

There's that, but also, being able to put in a shift for Chelsea\Arsenal\Utd. is a whole different proposition to putting a shift in for Saints. Even past their peak, those "peaked early" players are still damn fine players - maybe no longer Champions League quality, but if they're willing to take to take a cut in wages to play every week for Saints, they could do a good job for the level we're at at the moment IMO. We're not fighting it out for the title - we're looking for Europa league places and a cup run or two - I'd happily swallow my pride and take CL club "cast-offs" if it can help achieve those aims.

Indeed. This is why I cut him a lot of slack, as mentioned the other day, about his attitude. As I said back then, if an English player had his ability, his desire to be better than he is, and his longevity to stay at the high level he has attained, then he could have all the attitude he wanted.

Nope I am not one of the people that believes that. It just seems the ones that go to Arsenal stagnate.

Yeah, but like FLT says, injuries and money. Granted, coming away from Arsenal is likely to improve his injury record. They must train on concrete. But it's also the wages.
And that kills it stone dead. Under half and we start talking.

So the same in that regard, but why did Bertrand stall? He didn't suit Chelsea and it didn't work at Villa. Why has Walcott stalled? His horrendous injury record.

And yes, someone who bursts onto the scene at 16/17 (and particularly those who rely heavily on their pace) can definitely peak at 25/26/27.

    On big money as well.

Yeah, I agree the wages kill it - but not all "cast offs" want big money - if they're willing to take a cut in wages in order to play then I see no problem.

Not quite. He started when he was almost 18 and didn't play regularly for another season, IIRC. It's players who come onto the scene at 16/17, hailed as potential world beaters, and play week in, week out. The contention is that they fizzle out earlier than players who start playing regularly later because they are more physically upto the task.

    Musa going to Leicester then.

I'm surprised that people are surprised that we'll smash our transfer record this season. Fairly obvious it's going to happen.

Sidibe going to Monaco instead of us is a good thing.
