What has Bony done in the last year? He's been on the bench or injured through a majority of it! I'm not saying not to strengthen but we need to be wise about where we spend money, the £35m on two players is not going to happen at our club, imo ever! There are targets out there, the club is not going to put all their eggs in one basket, they bid £8m for Allen which is a fair price considering his position, he doesn't score goals or really create them directly for the most part, yes he'd be nice to have back here, but there are other players out there that can do the same job. I don't get all this sentimentality with former players, we know them when they were here, but we should be going for new players to come in now, who they are I don't exactly know, but the club has scouts out, they know what we need and we should be trusting their instincts and experience on this
An old striker at only 4 million is a " Buy low and get the best out of him " . Like Fer , Kanu isn't much of a Championship player , now Premier League player is another thing . Kanu' s best season with Reading was the the one year they came up to the Premier . Although they went back down , the one year stint with Reading in the Premier saw Kanu as the second highest goal scorer . And that was 7 goals in 13 starts and 12 sub appearences ( 17 % of Readings 43 goals) . It's of my opinion that Kanu has been unhappy since they went back down and why he ran out his contract . With the good feeling he may have from Euro , I think Kanu will be easily swayed in joining a Welsh " Premier League team " on the free with a lot to prove . A gift horse in the mouth comes to mind . Some said Michu would amount to nothing when they seen the cheap price tag . Money talks... but walks is another thing . We would be fools to not sign him if he wanted to sign for us
Dream land Roof, Kanu will not improve our startng 11. If I thought he could I would agree with you, 2 and a half good games in the Euros and we should sign him. Again no thanks, We would be fools not to sign him as our 3rd choice striker. Nothing other than that. I am convinced you would love us relegated.
Well apparently he had more than 2 and a half good games in the Premier lefty and frankly I think you would love us to get bankrupted . Keep in mind , Gomis is not going to half his wages going elsewhere so expect him to be staying . 6 seasons in the Premier spending nothing ( net ) on players and we aren't going to make a 7th unless we spend big just doesn't cut it with me . My biggest concern is losing players we have ....Ayew , Williams , Siggy .....
Losing players is a different discussion, if we lose people we don't want then money from their sale should be spent on replacing them, so the budget should go up on that. If you look at all the other Windows we have had in the premier league, we have spent when we have sold players on, I don't think that we have spent more than £25m-£30m in an entire season that means two windows, and that includes selling Allen and Bony. I think people are going to be severally disappointed on this one as well.
You watched him in the Pl then did you, probably didn't really know who he was then. It is not about spending fortunes its about paying the going rate for players we can be happy with can cut it at PL level. Just signing someone because they are cheap or free, doesn't work for me it is a gamble. Yes Michu was cheap and worked, Gomis was free and is a failure. Bony wasn't cheap and was a big success, so yes it is swings and roundabouts, but just to sign people because they are cheap is a very dangerous game to play.
Well it has to work as that is the way we've done it since 2002 when Morgan and co took over, the club has to pay its way has been their philosophy, and it's worked as currently we are in a healthy position and in the black. But if these yanks are what I think they are then I can see massive debts being piled on the club for their £100m they have paid and for the purchase of the stadium and expansion, they will be like the Glazers at Utd I think. That means very little for players when they take over, and even less in other windows. So we are going to be stuck with cheap and debts for the foreseeable future, so I think we all should get used to this.
Well we haven't always done it that way, I accept that not all the signings are good ones, but we have spent in the past and will in the future at what level only the club knows, Money has doubled as have prices of players on the strength of that, but it does seem you are saying that we are 20th in the league when it comes to finances as other clubs are investing in their playing squads, all at different levels and all above where we are then. I don't think anyone believes we should be paying 30m for a player that would be crazy, money has increased coming into the club and as such what we spend has to go up, to what level who knows. 3 years ago we spent 12m on a player yet 3 years later are we not able to do that again. If we aren't we are deep in trouble.
Well we are about to sign Fer and another Dutch player, so you are saying we are not doing anything is wrong. These are cheap players and that is our level, anything over £10m is a massive gamble for a club our size. We are a team, we play as a team and win or lose as a team, does that sound familiar? We may not have the best in the league, but we have team spirit and that's what counts
I think we will have to agree to disagree I think. You can still be a team win as a team and lose as a team even if you have expensive players in it, sound familiar.
Exactly, spending huge sums of money does not guarantee a win, it doesn't guarantee a loss either, so for a club like ours we have to fight the battles we can win, and those are not spending money like water. Leicester has shown what can be done, they don't have superstars in their team, but they do have an ethos we can emulate, indeed we have that imo
A lot of teams have spent a ton more money than us since we've been up and the only consistentcy they have is finishing behind us. Look at what Newcastle spent last season alone , on their way to a lonely trip to the Championship ,
No quality striker = another relegation battle. it is as plain and as simple as that.......£20m+ is at the cheap end for a quality striker for premiership football these days. As long as Huw calls the shots on players then we will always be in danger of relegation and law of averages says we wont be lucky all the time.....
But spending money wisely is what people are on about, signing players that we know work in the PL, Chucking money as Newcastle have done at a multitude of average Ligue 1 French players Is where they have gone wrong and us as well to a certain extent. You have to spend to stay here, but you do it wisely not with a Dart board.
Again, Huw is not working in isolation on this, he consults with the board and they decide collectively if money is to be spent. They have numerous targets and they know what they are after. Spending £20m on one player is not going to happen, and we will not be in the market for any of them at that price. The sooner you realise this the better, there are plenty of players out there that can do the job that we need, they don't need to be superstars, and they certainly do not need to cost tens of millions. I would think you would have got the picture by now, you keep on saying the same thing over and over, but still we are here and we have not spent the money you want.
Late in 2011 -2012 a player was given a chance to start a League game for Utrecht and scored 2 goals to ensure victory in a 3-2 game . He became a regular starter for Utrecht the next season and played 31 games scoring 4 more goals on their way to 5th place ( best finish 25 years ) and qualified for Europa . The player was made " Player of the season " and awarded his award after the last home game . We bought that player for 2 million this window .... Mike Van Der Hoorn Don't get me started on Fer for 4.8 million or the possibility of Kanu for free .Already a top energy window for me and we're just getting going . The three for a total of 6.6 million is a celebration for me , very sound business happening and good to see again .
And where does that improve our side. I think Van der Hoorn is a gamble but maybe worth it as he is cheap. Done nothing at Ajax but he may not have fit there. Fer I think is ok and sort of happy to have him back, He needs to knuckle down, Lose weight and actually get fit and put a bit more effort in then I think he could be a good player for us, but up to now we did well to get a good 60 mins out of him. As for Robson Kanu, don't see where he fits with us, He is an ok striker, but we need better as he is no goalscorer and he is an ok wide player and we have a lot more better players, so don't really see why we would sign him, only because he is free, so was gomis and there are thousands of players out of contract from L2, maybe we should sign them because they are free. Just don't see that he improves the side s he wouldn't get in it.
Come on Valley Robson Kanu can do that part time and will keep us in the Pl, just like he did with Reading, oh no he got relegated. I totally agree we need 2 strikers in my opinion and neither being Robson Kanu.
